The rubber started to peel off of the memory card door on my D810 so I just peel it off completely. No problems using the camera as is but, would like some suggestions on an adhesives to re-attach if anyone has done this before. Called & asked Nikon service & they suggest I send it in. = NADA.

Grip material is affixed with special double-sided tape, not glue. Grips and tape for supported models used to be available as a customer part, but that hasn't been the case for a while.

The suggestion to send your camera in for a general service isn't a bad idea. Indications are that the D810 is set to pass out of support before long under Nikon's new support strategy.

I had part of the rubber grip on my D810 come loose I used superglue and it worked

For things like that, I like rubber cement. You coat both sides and let it get almost dry and then put them together. It forms a really good seal and the nice thing about it is any extra that might leak out is easy to clean up. You can just roll it around into a little ball and discard it.

That is exactly where I was but didn't work so peeled it off & cleaned all the glue off ffom both the body & rubber.

Thank you. I'll give it a try. I was thinking Super 77 from 3M 7 doing as you said. Comes in a spray form 7 would have to mask off the camera. Once you put it on, it better be in the correct position. The rest off the can would most likely end up in the trash can a year from now.

"Superglue" is not one single product. You say it let you down but which product failed ?

The original version is brittle when dried and not at all suitable for glueing squishy rubber to a hard slick surface.

Another problem is that plasticizers migrate to the surface as the rubber ages. Thaz bad for adhesion, possibly why the rubber comes loose in the first place. I use a harsh solvent to prep the surface.

Ive done the job only once. As is typical my grip rubber had swollen so a touch of fine trimming was in order. I used gorrilla glue cuz it remains flexible when cured. Its not an instant contact adhesive, needs clamping, but it works.

If ever I try another reglue job I might try Plyobond, cuz its an immediate contact type and crazy strong.

I've had the same issue, as well as the "leather" covering of another camera. I used Rubber Cement. Brush it on both surfaces that make contact and let it dry. Then carefully push the rubber back on. Any excess can be easily rubbed off.

I'm a big fan of DYI fixes, but not on cameras. Unless it's just a loose screw or a minor external issue, I prefer a professional authorized repair service.

Many of the latest adhesives- Super Glue, Gorilla Glue, Crazy Glue, and many brands of contact cement are extremely aggressive and difficult to undue or clean off if they don't work. If any of those materials somehow get into that card slot, you will be in for a major repair job.

If you do not repair the slot cover and use it as is, other unwanted particles can get to the camera, especially if do lots of shooting out of doors.

It's too bad that the major manufacturers and distributors discontinue the support of many of their older models and do not release the parts to independent repair services or directly to the users. If Nikon still supports your model, send it in.
