I glanced out the window, and I saw this guy sitting in a tree. I grabbed a camera and took some shots through the window. I've lived here for fifty-six years, and I think this is the first local owl I've seen. It was pretty large. I'm afraid it will see my dachshund as dinner, so I got him some protection.

Nicely done, Jerry. I’ve been in my house 44 years and this is the first year that I had an owl in the trees in the back. I’ve never seen it but I have noticed less small critters in the back since he has been hooting.

I realize I misplaced again. I put this in Main rather than Gallery.

I was fortunate back in 2016 to have a daily visitor for about 3 months (he was the fellow in my avatar). He would show up about dawn and take off to feed around sunset. I had 5 relatively large Sissou trees and he would spend his time in one of two that had shade from the house for half the day. We had 5 small dogs and a Himalayan cat and I had to keep the doggie door closed and supervise their potty breaks and play times. I would walk around trying to stay in-line between the bird and the snacks.

I often found a pigeon or a dove decapitated below the owl’s perch but rarely found evidence that the owl was feeding on them and it dawned on me that he was leaving them for doggie/kitty bait when Theo the cat dragged one through the doggie door. I think the owl finally left when he cleaned out the pigeon population. Now we’re down to one dog and the trees are gone because Sissous are invasive and killed off the palms and cracked my concrete work. Now the pigeons are back. Without the trees the rest of the birds are gone, but the pigeons sit on the surrounding rooftops waiting to swoop in and crap all over the pool deck… Red Ryder if my friend.😉

Nice shots.

I guess I am fortunate, I've seen three species of Owl in my yard in recent years.

A couple of years ago one even borrowed my chair. I'll post about that in my own thread so I don't hijack yours.

Nice shots Jerry. An armed dachshund is a scary thought.
