I have Photoshop, but use Paint.net for most simple processing. It's easier to use than Photoshop and handles most edits well. I do have trouble with it's ability to "unskew" photos that need that correction. It is available from Microsoft or other software compilation sites. Free or donation.

If you are running Windows PC, there is a simple photo viewer/editor included. I use occasionally for quick adjustments. If you’re running a Mac, a photo viewer/editor is included as well.

Once you get hooked into editing your photos there will be little time for making photos. Do your best in-camera and forget all the phony-up crap. Sone basic editing is OK but...

If it takes THAT long to edit your photos you're not doing it right.
Best possible in camera is a valid goal, but there is ALWAYS room for editing. For one thing, not all images benefit from the native aspect ratio of the camera. And there is more than one picture in every image.

Without knowing what platform you use it is pretty hard to recommend any. Best paid for value is Affinity Photo 2 which you buy for about $40 on sale. The learning curve is high if you don’t have experience in processing images in a product like adobe creative raw, etc.

You can get gimp for free.

If you are a mac user photos are an adequate choice.

The Skylum apps are user-friendly but buggy. I'm not sure about the older versions like Luminar 3, Luminar 4, or luminar ai are still available. Neo is a cluster on pricing and is buggy.

Photoshop Elements is good

But my choice is On1 as it is the closest thing to LR/Photoshop and can be purchased either as a subscription or a perpetual license.

Most apps have free trials.

I'm looking for simple photo editing software. I don't want just auto fix, but sw like photoshop is way beyond what I want or need. I expect to pay for it, e.g., no just freebies I used to have really good sw for my interest and abilities but those no longer work with MS 11.

If this has been addressed in other discussions, would appreciate direction on where to view them.

Thank you.

Adobe Elements prior to version 12 - available on ebay or elsewhere ......

It would be interesting to me to see what the five most used editor functions are by UHHers, and in which products. OK... if five is too few, how about ten?

FYI:
Here's a link to create a poll and post a link anywhere.

My recollection about using Survey Monkey is to give respondents choices to pick or rank. In other words, lists of, in this case, editing functions found in photo editors. Wow! That would be a huge job to collect and structure into a survey. I had more in mind just hearing from members who chose to do so, tell us their five most used editing functions. Mine in Luminar AI would be:

1. Composition (Ratio, Perspective, Rotate, Transform.)
2. Enhance.
3. Light (Exposure, +/- Highlights, +/- Shadows, +/- Blacks, +/- Whites.)
4. Structure.
5. Details.

I have no idea what Luminar terminology corresponds to in other editors. If there was sufficient interest in this topic, I might spend the time preparing images to show the results of using these functions. That would, hopefully, help identify their function for users of other editors.

DUH! I skimed and thought you were suggesting a poll on the most used photo editing programs!
