It's interesting to note that the Windows vs Mac is almost an USA thing.
In Europe or down here in South America, Mac's are extremely rare. The main debate is Windows vs Linux (with ninety something % Windows dominance on the desktop and almost non existing on server farms)

Don't know about Europe but in South America most people can't afford Apple products.

I’m a Mac guy. In the summer I have to use windows for some things I do. After sixteen years of this PCs still drive me crazy. So “not intuitive” after all these years. It’s mostly what you are used to.
Partly what you are used to.
I used PCs and Macs together in the same office for 26 years. I had no choice, because the applications I needed were not available on both platforms, and when they were, one platform's version was superior.
I got quite used to Windows. But I never *liked* it. It was too inconsistent, too convoluted. A few things here and there were a LOT better than MacOS, but overall, the Mac had the ease of use advantage. It was deeply intuitive, as in "layers" of elegant, intuitive UI design. Windows was skin deep until version 10, and Windows 8 was afterbirth on toast. But so was Mac OS 7.5!

Solution - get rid of the Windows puter.
You know why it’s called “Windows”, don’t you?
Because often you just want to throw it OUT of one! 😆😆😆

Too bad for them, then.
The aren't sold to be cheap. They're sold to perform well, and to integrate the entire Apple ecosystem of devices, sites, and services. Long time users know what we get for our money.

Why would you even use a Windows PC after the Mac?? Once you go Mac, you never go back!

I had a Mac, used it for a while and felt it was OK but went back to Windows and like it much more. I them gave my Mac to one of my granddaughters. She thinks it is OK too.

When I first encountered Apple computers, I had to use 4 different disks just to boot up the computer. The Compaq took only one. Still saving my disks. <grin>

How about 1985. I am not saying the company I worked for then had the latest versions. LOL
I don't think I want a Mac but price isn't what turn me away.
There's something wrong with your setup…macOS simply doesn't automatically rename files so that they start with a period character. Not sure what is up…but I just opened NX Studio and edited a file and it did *not* do that…so as a long time Mac guy I can only say either you're doing something strange or there's a preference or something setup in either the macOS or on the camera body with how files may (or may not) get named). Random renaming of files…simply isn't something that macOS does.
And while NX Studio ain't necessarily crap as was indicated…if you bought a Mac Pro solely to work on images…you spent a lot of money so spring for the extra $10 a month for the Adobe Photo Plan or some other more fully featured image manager and editor.

Once the ._ (period underscore) prefix has been added, that file is not readable on my Windows PC, do you not get that? There is no duplicate file. Yes, I can DELETE the files on my PC and in doing so I have to get a clean copy of that image file and replace what I had the DELETE. More work than it is worth. See???
say you take 3 photos and put them on a MAC then put them on say a thumb drive. Plug the thumb drive and open the thumb device. How many entries do you see?
When I connect an Iphone to a PC via USB, and open the folder on the phone with Explorer, I see twice as many entries. half the entries start with _
