It’s a deer lower jaw. You can see the bone has been chewed by mice, squirrels or chipmunks. Most likely one of those critters pulled it through the fence into your yard. Or possibility a scavenger bird like a crow dropped it.

Looks like a young deer, possibly from this past spring judging by the graphic on the paper background. The teeth have not been used enough to wear them down.

6 ft isn’t enough to keep deer out. Orchards use 10 ft fences.

Unless they can climb, they can't get in. Never have. There is no room for them to run - too many trees.

The paper background was from that day's Amazon delivery.

Too much coffee or not enough sleep. No, I didn't sharpen the teeth.

Could have been there for years. Before you put up fence.

I think the lawnmower would have gotten it sometime over the past fifty-six years.

Jerry, I believe it to be a deer from the molars and no ripping and tearing K9 teeth. Looking at what is left of the jawbone, I can see where the squirrels have been gnawing on it so it was most likely carried into your yard by them.

Squirrels make quick work of antler sheds which is why with all of the male deer over the years we seldom find them. They provide a good source of calcium and help keep the incisors worn down and sharp helping them with cutting nuts.

A sacred " Indian " artifact. Now you might loose ownership of your property, ( now being sacred and all ) and or having it all dug up to check for more. Also become a suspect in some local disapearaces not yet solved. Be careful.
