My dog brought this in from the back yard. I checked, but there are no large (or small) dead animals out there. What do you think owned these? Catskills, NY.

I am inclined to believe it is from a deer.

No. Herbi Vore is alive and well.

That would be my guess, but how did it get into my fenced-in back yard? I could imagine it being dropped by a bird, but we seldom see birds flying around with deer in their talons.

Do you ever get fox or any other animals in your yard that may have scavenged the carcass and dropped it passing through?

We have a six-foot chain-link fence cemented into the ground. When we had birdfeeders back there, a bear climbed over the fence, but I doubt anything else would climb over. I keep asking my dog where he got that, but he just smiles at me.

6 ft isn’t enough to keep deer out. Orchards use 10 ft fences.

Could have been there for years. Before you put up fence.

I think that the deer may have died years ago. Then the skeleton may have been moved by other animals or raptors. The jaw bone looks as if it was picked clean and maggots finished the remains. I don’t think your pooch is up to telling a story. When mine smiles he has mischief on his mind.

I think your dog dug up the body of the disagreeable son-in-law that had before he mysteriously disappeared years ago. Continue playing the innocent, unknowing homeowner/father and you’ll be ok.
