Lucian,
Very interested in what you are instructing, good to know...
I copied and pasted what you wrote and bingo, went right to a download page and have it installed on my iMac, thank you...
I want to get a drone also and I have quite a few videos I can practice with prior to buying a drone...
Another question, can you get all the testing done before actually owning a drone???
TIA
Larry

Yes of course Larry, you can get your driving licence before owning a car, for example. No drone needed for the test, it is mostly about aviation maps and airspace etc.

The best I've run across is Davinci Resolve. It's free.

I just bought a drone for aerial photography for personal enjoyment only. Before I start down that path I must admit I edit photos all the time sometimes using Photoshop Elements 2020 but have never attempted a video with that software.

Is there a better product to learn the process? Should I try "freeware" as part of my education? Any suggestions?

This past year I've acquired Gopro 9 and DJI Mini SE. Done some video but never attempted to edit. I've downloaded the Adobe Premiere Rush (part of my Adobe plan) but haven't tried it yet. Hoping it will work for me.

Just fly in beginner mode for a little while. That won't let you fly fast or far or high. It keeps you no higher than 50ft or lower and keeps within about 150ft of take off point. Practice basic flying skills until you get comfortable. Then take it out of beginner mode, but not into sport mode, just stay in the standard mode P and go easy.

If you crashed early on, everything becomes frightening. Just go to a wide open place and make yourself do various flying maneuvers, such as flying in a square, then reverse that pattern. Then in a circle and fly around yourself at varying altitudes and before long you will get comfortable with it again. Any fears, just release the sticks and it will stop and hover in place until you get yourself together again, then continue.

Thanks for the tips, I agree that this would be a great way to get comfortable. Just need to actually do it. Its so much easier just to go in the yard... :-)

I do have some open space on my property, but not as much as going out to a field or something like that. I could use the ballfields where my son plays baseball. They wouldn't care.

I love this thread by the way!

Although I've been using PowerDirector for years, I hear that "DaVinci Resolve 18" is free and excellent. It's hard to beat free and excellent.

I agree with the Davicni Resolve, I have it and love it. One caution, watching tutorials on how to use, at least for me, was mandetory. Could not simply wade into it

I agree about the tutorials - for PowerDirector. I learned a lot in a short time from videos.

If you are a Mac user, iMovie has come free with every Mac sold since the turn of the 21st Century. It is highly refined, elegant, and great for simple projects. Beginning Mac users should always start with iMovie. Their projects import directly into Final Cut Pro when they are ready for something more.

For both Mac AND Windows, Black Magic Design's DaVinci Resolve also has a free version. It is a very powerful professional editor with a bit of a learning curve. It is fully optimized for the new Macs and runs quite well on Windows, too.

On the PC and Mac, Adobe Premiere Elements is the video equivalent of Photoshop Elements, so if you like that sort of interface, try that one.

Adobe Premiere Pro is available for Windows and MacOS. On Windows, Premiere Pro is a popular powerhouse. But if you are on a Mac and don't already know Premiere, I would advise using Apple's Final Cut Pro for that level of professional flexibility. It is faster, slicker, and more completely optimized for the hardware.

Thanks for your suggestion to get an editing controller. Now I think I better get one. I fondly remember more linear tape based controllers and using my mouse is hurting my aging shoulders. Probably not getting the DaVinci version since reviews note that it's oriented towards Macs but I'm down the rabbit hole of looking for something that makes the editing more streamlined. It's often the side notes in answers on this forum that pique my interest. Good stuff.

The speed editor from Black Magic works perfectly fine with a PC. It may be optimized for a MAC but that does not mean it will not work well for a PC. I have a PC as do many of my drone friends who also edit with the speed keyboard. You can find many Youtube videos whereby the person is using a PC. Of course you need to do what you think is best.

How is that used in editing a video?
