I would suggest either ON1 Photo RAW or Affinity Photo 2. Both have been recently been upgraded and are on sale. Buy once and it's yours to use as long as you want.

Did not know that those two had video editors

I would look into elements as long as you have it. Videos do take up large amounts of HD room

Avid Media Composer has a freeware version called "First“, which is fully functional as a standalone program, apart from a limitation on the number of video tracks (5). It is the best of the best, but with a pretty steep learning curve.

Welcome to the drone world. Taking photos at altitude makes a world of difference. If you haven't already done so, check out the Mavic Forums. TONS of info there. There are many great videos shown there too.
As for the video editing programs, there is a learning curve. Like mentioned, there are many YouTube videos to show you how. Just wish they wouldn't go so fast when jumping through the program. I have to pause a lot to see what they just clicked on.
Have fun!

Yes! I see so many videos shot from the air now. It used to cost a fortune to hire a helicopter to do the shooting. Now, YouTubers can take shots from above. They have to get permission to fly over the pyramids, and one guy wasn't allowed to use his drone because Camilla Bowles owned a house in the area.

My own township will not allow any drone flying (with or without a camera) so I contacted the neighboring township community parks director. She said they have no ordinances that would restrict me and then enthusiastically asked if I would share my videos and photos because they have nothing of the sort for their parks.

That reminded me that I now need that commercial certificate from the FAA. I can learn all I want with the recreational certificate but before I shoot anything that I would share I better have that commercial certificate in my pocket. It's all about the "intent" before take-off that defines recreational or commercial use. (see, I learned something from Greg at pilot Institute. Actually it was A LOT!)

How is that used in editing a video?

Taking a quick look at the website where they demonstrate it, will be far quicker than paragraphs of descriptions. But basically, the scroll wheel and special keys streamline and speed up the normal multi key approach of normal editing with a keyboard and mouse. It simplifies and speeds up the job.

On1 RAW does not have a video editing programme, though they announced it was coming soon, several years ago. However, I think they have put that idea on indefinite hold.

Your own township can't stop you flying, legally, if you are flying as per what the FAA states you should be doing. They may stop you taking off and landing in certain places, but they do not own the airspace and in the same way that I can take in my plane and fly over areas in your town, you can launch your drone from a safe spot and fly over areas in your town, despite them trying to have a local law in place. Federal law always outweighs local ordinance when it comes to aviation.

I understand that and you are correct about the FAA and the law but in this case I just want to practice in an open field so taking off and landing outside of the park is inconvenient. I don't live near the parks so that means I have to ask some other land owner if I can takeoff and land from their property. I'm not out to prove a point. Heck, in this township you'll get a fine if your grass is over XX inches too high.

Thanks. Will do. I'm thinking about it for my son. He does a lot of video. Have you ever tried green screen? He does amazing things with that. You can even get brief green screen videos to insert into your own videos.

Oh yes, we've had high end green screen for many years in the Professional photography arena. You could get some amazing things to use as stacked slides in a green screen system I saw that several friends were using many years ago, when I was a member of the Ohio PPA and Kentucky PPA.

The company would be there to display their system when we had our annual Trade show and 4 day symposiums. Video went from Green to Blue for several years due to the green fringe that always seemed to show up. It was far less evident with Blue screen systems.

I remember it started with blue and then went to green. You have to be careful what colors you have in the foreground. That problem pops up with Zoom backgrounds, too.

I just bought a drone for aerial photography for personal enjoyment only. Before I start down that path I must admit I edit photos all the time sometimes using Photoshop Elements 2020 but have never attempted a video with that software.

Is there a better product to learn the process? Should I try "freeware" as part of my education? Any suggestions?

Windows 10 and 11 have had a free photo and video editor built into the OS just as MacOS does. This program is now called "Photos Legacy" and can be downloaded free from the Windows store. The new "Photos" works only with photos and Microsoft built a free video editing website called "ClipChamp."

The two links given below are two of many videos I created with the old Photos on Windows.
