This is a very helpful link. Thank you. I've watched some of these videos, but not all, and I guess I have my days of learning cut out for me now. Again thank you.
What works best CIZ or cropping?

Depends on how much you’re going to crop. With a 1” type sensor it doesn’t take a lot of cropping to start degrading the image quality. CIZ is so good that you can zoom in and get a very nice image without having to crop to get the final image that you want. I would use CIZ before resorting to cropping if possible.
And remember, those of you who use the Panasonic Lumix series, you have a feature similar to Sony’s Clear Image Zoom called Intelligent zoom. It works in much the same manner as CIZ.
Thank you for your informative answer. As a matter of fact I shoot a Panasonic LUMIX fz2500 and I’m satisfied with my photos. Even with the 480 mm zoom, I’m sometimes looking for more reach so I will definitely try this feature you pointed out to me. I had no idea that it’s similar to Sony CI.

CIZ only works with JPEG so for me it’s cropping.
CIZ is an AI pixel enlargement software. It only works with JPEG. The higher the quality of your image (optimized - with proper shutter speed, proper focus, and low as possible ISO) the better the CIZ result will be.
There are other specialized AI softwares that you can apply in PP that will cost you $$ and run better with FAST hardware (more $$$) Shallow pocket enthusiasts will be happy with CIZ !
Thanks for this info, I own both an a7rii and RX100vi and didn’t know this feature existed. Not knowing it was there I routinely didn’t look any further that the “optical zoom only” menu item. So far I’m fairly impressed with this feature as an alternative to cropping.
