If you want cheap filters, the good ones will run in the hundreds.
This is particularly true of the narrow band which really expensive.

Wonderful images, Ballard - just overwhelming beauty and majesty up there and you are doing a marvelous job catching and explaining them, even though the technical explanation is way over my head!
I just wonder where do you get these fantastic clear skies to see and capture all these images!? I remember as a teen walking in my native Switzerland on a clear winter night with little to no light pollution and being in awe of these stars above our head. I do also remember years ago when traveling having similar experiences, once down in Tahiti and once at the Ayer's Rock in Australia. Hardly ever see any stars now where we live, it is a real pity.
Thanks for posting these!
Excellent captures, Ballard.

Hi weberwest
Thanks for viewing the images of the Triangulum Galaxy and for the comment. Where I live in Grass Valley we have Bortle 4 skies which means you can still see the Milkyway fairly easily when it's clear and the moon isn't up. During the summer and early fall we get a decent number of clear skies in the Grass Valley area. The other thing besides being clear is how turbulent the air gets (known as "seeing"). For example last night I was trying to finish some captures of the bubble nebula since the sky was clear, unfortunately it was extremely turbulent with the guide star fuzzing out so much that I couldn't track well and gave up. I'm hoping for better "seeing" tonight.
Here is a link that describes the Bortle scale.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bortle_scaleHere is a link to a world map that shows the Bortle level all over the world and you can zoom in to see specific locations. (Looks like Ferndale is Bortle 5 with Bortle 6 and 7 skies nearby. Note: Downtown Seattle is Bortle 9).
