I am a Nikon (d500 and z50) user but am in the market for a p&s camera that I can carry in my purse or pocket on days I don’t want to carry a larger camera.
I don’t shoot much video but want to be able to capture landscape, architecture, street, and scenery stills in a high quality raw format. I do not need incredible zoom…would be happy with 24mm-70mm range.
Have looked at Sony rx100iii, Canon G7x, Panasonic LUMIX LS100II or the LUMIX ZS200. I want to purchase a used camera if possible , since I have plenty of gear. I absolutely an need EVF that is fixed on camera (which makes me hesitate on the Sony). Right now I am leaning toward Panasonic, but would value input. Price range $400-800. Suggestions?

Dear primary poster: You have not expressed the megapixels you desire. That would determine the vintage for your P&Shoot. For instance a Nikon CoolPix 7900 is 7megaixels and a very handy little camera. (Attached photo to show small size of Nikon CP7900--7mpixel--P&S)

Check out the discussion on the iPhone 14 Pro as a P & S solution or option.
I am very happy with the results and eliminated my thoughts of buying a P & S to leave my Nikons behind.
She stated that the budget was $4oo-$800... not even close to what a 14 Pro would cost.

lyndacast,
The Sony RX100 III does have an attached viewfinder that pops up from the top of the camera. I use it occasionally when the sun is too bright to compose with the rear screen. My only complaint about is that when you retract it back into the body, the camera powers down. Sony logic is sometimes hard to decipher. That aside, it is a wonderful little camera that I carry with me almost everywhere.
While not ideal, the firmware update to the RX100 III did provide a workaround to the camera powering down when retracting the viewfinder. When retracting the viewfinder, press the power off button, and the camera will not power off. It takes a little practice to get the timing for this, but it work. Again, though, not ideal, but.....

I have the Panasonic ZS 100. It's quite small, has a 25-250mm F/2.8-5.9 lens that retracts 95% back into the body. It has a viewfinder, that even though it's quite small it still lets you review photos through it when your out in the sun. As mentioned by another hog, there is now a zs 200 out, so you might get a decent price if you can find one. It's a 20 mp 1" sensor that I find very capable. It also has a small pop up flash.
Thanks, Andy….this is exactly what I ordered!
Every so often, I do a search for a compact camera with a viewfinder, raw capability, and a built-in zoom lens. I'm never satisfied with the results. Either the price or the features disappoint me. Why can't someone make a perfect, inexpensive camera?
Too many folks are hung-up on “technology,” and have forgotten that the real purpose of the camera is to render a nice image.

You might check for a used Nikon P7800. I have one and it's perfect according to your description. It also shoots RAW and video if these are important. Fully articulating rear screen.
I absolutely love the quality and convenience of my Canon G7x. It doesn't have a viewfinder. I don't need / want one, but you might. I use it as follows, set to the wide end of the zoom, and F/2.8 aperture priority with a moderate range of auto ISO. Because of this I know what will be in the frame, and never look at the LCD except for review.
This is especially good for kids, pets and street type pictures because the camera can easily be placed much lower than usual (for an eye level view finder) This works very well for me. The AF is surprisingly reliable.
Fits in a pocket, 20 MP.
This may not work for others but my pictures are better for it. Especially children & Pets where viewpoint is so important, and I can't get down there fast enough with bigger cameras. I think all major brands offer something like this, but not all are f/2.8 which I think helps for the way I use it.
How much and how old is it?

It is entirely possible that some people will find an iPhone 14 Pro to be an absolute bargain if they ALSO need a new phone.
I'd rather spend money for a great iPhone 14 Pro than for a low end iPhone and a point-and-shoot camera, if all I want to do is carry ONE thing. That's because the iPhone 14 Pro will do so many other things than just be a camera! (Substitute your choice of high end Android phone with great cameras if you don't use iOS phones.)
You might consider and older Panasonic P&S like a LX2 or LX5 which cost around $100 used. Unfortunately they don't have rangefinders but are handy P&S and I believe you can shoot video with them.

Get last year's top of the line smart phone...does not matter if it is Galaxy, IPhone or Pixel. You won't regret it.
