Second camera choice

I will echo the thoughts about the D700, D750, and D7100. They are the three cameras I've used for years to illustrate fly fishing magazine articles and books. That old D700 just keeps on working; I've never had an editor complain about a picture being shot with a 12mp camera - the biggest picture in a magazine/book is across a two-page spread (roughly 11" x 17"). AND the other two have very similar button/menu setups so are really easy to work back and forth between them. Also, my wife's camera of choice is the D7200 which is another great Nikon in their lineup of DSLRs. Take care & ...

I have a Nikon D7100 and a stable of DX and FX lenses, along with 3 SB800 flash units (don't ask!)

I'm looking for a full frame camera to compliment my D7100 and have been considering a D750. My budget is about $700 which should work for a used D750 body in good condition.

I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions to consider. The budget is fairly firm, so that rules out the D850.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

The D750 is a great camera.

Been shooting film since the 70s My lenses include 28 mm. 50 mm, 55 mm macro 90 mm macro, 100mm 70-300 mm, and 600 mm so I think I'm covered.

I see now you "hid" the reference to having FX lenses right there in the first line of the OP ...

Keep in mind a full-frame camera is 'second' to no cropped cameras. Maybe instead, you should be thinking of coming back to full-frame and retiring the DX equipment? That may change your budget and your options.

I took a look at KEH because that's where I've bought all my equipment from. They have a d750 for about 800 if you can have a line on a 750 for 700 I would be very suspicious.

Not true! MPB has several D750's in Excellent Condition priced at $764 and several in good condition priced at $729. KEH is very reputable as a used dealer but they don't set the bar for used pricing. Always check mpb.com, as they sell used bodies in far greater numbers than KEH.

Does either one give the shutter count?

The D750 is a great camera and will serve you well. At one time I owned two of them but sold one when I went to M43 for my travel kit. I also have a D7100 which I kept to use with a Tamron 100-400 even though I also sold all of my DX lenses. I prefer the D750 photos to the D7100. I decided to keep the D750 and a few FX lenses because it provides a full frame set up and frankly I just love the thing. You might want to look at MPB along with Robert’s used cameras in your search. Good luck.

mpb.com gives a shutter count for each camera body listed.

not sure on the pricing but I have an 810 that I really like

oakvillebob!

While I have two Nikon D750s, I also have two D810s. I would be a little patient and even stretch your budget a little to get a D810. All of my cameras have been bought used with low shutter counts and with mirrorless camera
buyers, there will be even more DSLR cameras on the market! The Nikon D800 body was the last one that I paid the full price of $2995.00 but no more. The D810s cost $800 to 900 depending on the additional stuff (extra batteries or memory cards) that came with them.

Be well!

Another place to check for used equipment is Used Photo Pro, division of Roberts Camera, in Indianapolis. Sometimes they run 10% off sales on Nikon gear. I have used them and they are great to deal with giving pretty much the same warranties as KEH and MPB.

Agreed

As does Used Photo Pro. And you're viewing pics of the actual item for sale. Coupon code "TAKE5" yields 5% off anytime.

I like that, but they don't do it for mirrorless because they don't think it matters.

There's a big difference between 200,000 clicks and 2,000. When I find my calculator, I'll tell you what the difference is.

I did some quick math. 200,000 is a LOT more than 2,000!
