MX has been at the top of the list at Distrowatch for many months. It serves me well; also like PCLOS.
I have been quite happy using the various flavors of Mint over the years.

Now that I have Fedora installed and running and also installed GIMP. I wonder how can I edit *.nef files from my Nikon using GIMP.
You can install Darktable as an extension to Gimp as well as a standalone program. I used GIMP for years for JPEGS but when I started with Nikon raw files I shopped around and ended up with Darktable. Darktable is 100% open source and very similar to Lightroom but IMHO in some ways and better. I now only use GIMP when I need to merge multiple images, like placing a moon in the sky or something like that.

He is a convert from Lightroom and has developed over 100 tutorials under the title of Understanding Darktable. As you peruse some of his videos, you will be amazed what can be done with Darktable.

I use Debian on a number of PC systems. Seems to work well for me, but I do not use multiple monitors.

Actually I found Debian works well except that it doesn't work with 2 monitors for me.
I have a love affair with Tiny Core linux. As a Windows guy, I don't use it often, but one day I'll install it on my old Surface Pro 3. Mint is good for those stuck on Windows - the Start button works out of the box.
I have used mint for years, also have two monitors. I calibrate them using DisplayCal and Spyder 5.
I have used Linux forever. My favorite is Linux Mint, Mate version. I have an old Dell desktop with I5 and 12 gb ram.
I use the onboard gpu. Gimp is great and raw is not a problem.
