The road is actually the old Colorado Midland Railroad bed which was there before the reservoir.
Yes, I grew up on the other side of the divide at Thomasville, our 'front yard' was cinders from the Midland. I have a switch in my 'man cave/rr stuff" that I dredged out of a beaver pond at Seller Siding.
The building across the road from us was at one time a 'stop' for the Midland, it was actually a bar/brothel and Doc Holiday had been there. The trainmen protested when the RR closed the Thomasville stop; the trainmen said that they needed the stop to build up steam to go on to Basalt...but the RR found out the train could coast down there with no steam at all!! Hence our little town was no longer a brothel!! I'm 84 now and can remember a big engine on a siding waiting to be scrapped; us kids would find all kinds of stuff along the track bed. The Midland was gone before I was born but had plenty of trash and stuff there for us to play with. Aaaah, time goes by! I have a big photo on my den wall of the switchback of the Hagerman Tunnel/Ivanhoe tunnel from the Leadville side.
👍👍👍 I do both, Fly fishing and photography... Heavenly

My husband took me to this canyon where he goes fly fishing. I had never been there and thought it would be a good day trip with camera. Not much in the way of color - it's gone - but lovely drive and scenery. The gravel and narrow road ends at the reservoir.
Enjoy
Wonderful scenery, Rowedean!
