I am generally not a fan, never had a desire for one even while I was in the Navy. However, in my nursing career I did find tatoos useful in helping to calm a patient prior to a procedure as they could lead to a brief conversation about their meaning and how they came about. My favorite story was from an older gent who came in with Air
force wings tatooed above his left chest, it was a very recent peice of artwork so I asked about it. He replied that he was at a reunion of his squadron mates in LasVegas and all of the old warriors had a great time and all went out and got their wings placed permanently on their chests. They will always fly together.
Not a fan but like said previously - whatever floats your boat. That said, the following SNL skit is worth a view.

I too am not a big fan of tattoos, but I think the piercing thing is even worse. I've got no problem with pierced ears, but these days they seem to turn their ears into pin cushions or stretch them out with huge holes, etc. The nose rings, lip rings, tongue studs, and navel piercings are not what I'd call attractive either, but that's just my opinion. I just don't understand their popularity, but it surely seems to be popular to say the least!

And yet you are a photographer and want to cover your house's beautiful bare walls with images. Why, because you like them. Is a blank wall better?
The photographs are temporary. They can be removed with little to show occupancy. The wall can be repainted back to original condition.
Specious argument.
When I was a kid most people that had a lot of Tattoos were either carnival workers or ex Cons.

I don't mind a small tattoo on a female's ankle or shoulder but in my opinion, it has gone too far. I hate seeing a female with a really beautiful body covered neck to toe with tattoos. I like seeing the beauty of pure unadulterated acres of skin! A few years ago it seemed heavily tattooed women were usually overweight or homely looking. Now it seems I see more and more beautiful women with way too much tattooing. I guess I'm looking at this mainly from a photography standpoint. A local photographer has models take off all jewelry other than small earrings. He claims excess jewelry is distracting and takes away from the natural beauty of the model. The heavy tattooing is even worse.

Years ago the one place I saw heavily tattooed women was the local tap room/strip joint, and for the most part, the dancers were neither overweight or in the least bit homely. Although all my daughters have at least one tattoo, one of my daughters has way to many, in my opinion, and she is tall, has zero excess body fat and is quite a good looking woman, a college graduate, registered nurse and has three daughters of her own. I personally don't care for all her body art but she likes it and so does her boyfriend/future husband. Whatever floats her boat.
I refer to tats on women as dick deflators.

one tat on my arm...my nickname...got when i was 15 by tattoo charlie on baltimore's block..our guys used to go down to the block and play the penny pinball machines....five of us decided to get a tattoo...cost 2dollars....so blurred now can hardly make it out...i'm 87...never had the urge to get another....
My advice for young folks considering tattoos is:
1. Find a tattoo artist that is a true artist that can draw and knows the use of color.
2. Make sure that YOU and the tattoo artist know how to spell if you get any text.
3. Avoid facial tattoos if you ever plan on interviewing for a job.
4. Avoid any racial or gang-related tattoos for you never know who your cellmate could be someday.
5. Most importantly...have the tattoo artist put the tattoo on paper first. Take that paper and wad it up into a ball, then open it up and look at how wrinkled and smeared it looks, for that is EXACTLY what it will look like on you when you are old.

Variations to the status quo can be disturbing to some people. Remember when the Beatles first burst on the scene with long hair? People said it was horrible. Now days does a male with long hair bother anybody? I donโt think so.
Just because something is new and/or different doesnโt mean itโs bad.
Luckily, we don't have to get a vote from other snobby opinionated mean people as to whether we should get a tattoo or not.
I tend to mind to my own business.
I totally agree with you, Mike, it is bad enough when a man is covered from head to toes with tattoos, but in my opinion, unsightly when I see a woman all covered with tattoos, to each his own.
