Well, he said it doesn't GET upgrades, not that he doesn't DO them.
AND, he's getting a new phone; now THAT's an upgrade.

I've never owned an Apple product and probably never will.

Buy what you want…Apple believes in selling a high quality secure product at a profitable price…and not interested in being the market leader whatever that means. And judging by the fact that they make the vast majority of the profit in just about every segment they compete in…their philosophy works. Not to mention e are of use, essentially non existent virus problem…and the fact that I can explain to granny over the phone how to reinstall the OS in the highly unlikely occurrence that it becomes necessary, combined with the impossibility of doing that for Windows or Linux…seems to me that making a metric buttload of money, having happy users, and having happy shareholders is a really good idea.

Apple put thousands of Americans out of work so they could employ Chinese works at a fraction of the cost. Look at the price of Apple products.

Apple builds their products overseas…just like every other electronics manufacturer…because the supply chain and complex manufacturing capabilities exist there and do not exist in the US. That’s due to a lot of factors beyond Apple’s control and it is a lot more complex than ‘labor is cheaper over there’. Yes…it is cheaper but people in the factories ar pretty well paid by local standards and the reasons it is cheaper are many but include union demands, work rules, and government regulation…but again Apple is not unique here.

Price gouging? How much profit do you believe Apple makes on each iPhone they sell? I'll give you a little hint. The cost to manufacture them isn't even triple digit.

You are full of something…but accurate facts on iPhone costs don’t appear to be on the list.

Recurring production cost for an iPhone is $550-$600…but that does not include overhead, development cost R&D for new products, etc, etc…and profit is in there as well. It took me 5 seconds of googling to find a summer 22 article on the production unit cost…but you should learn the difference between unit cost and total cost.

Apple makes a profit…because…hmmm…that’s what a corporation is supposed to do. Others chase market share because ‘we will make it up in volumes…Apple prefers to sell a premium product at a premium price.

This is an argument very similar to cars, watches, camera, and every other product. Buy what you want…but some people want a Ferrari, Rolex, or Nikon…and some people choose other brands because in their view the other brand better suits their needs.

Stupid Question:
We have downloaded songs for a Christmas Tree Lighting many years ago from Apple Music. If I drop Apple Music, will we lose those downloaded songs?
Don’t need Apple Music as I have Amazon Music.

It depends…did you buy them or just download on an Apple Music sub? If the former…you can legally export them for reuse. If the latter…you can’t and while it is possible to steal them if the6 are sub downloads…you will have to google how to violate copyright and contract law on your own.

Yet, people keep giving Apple their money because "Apple is the best."

Apple ranks #7 in revenue, but they are #2 in profit. Does that imply that they are charging more than they have to for their products?

Nope…it merely implies their often stated goal…they’re not interested in bottom feeding low end products…they’re interested in the premium portion of the market.

You can't compare apples (hah!) and oranges. The newest phones stream at an amazing rate, fast enough to stream movies and other entertainment and also have amazing photo capabilities. They're bigger. That's what 5G is all about. It's what younger people want. I'm still using an iPhone 8 and am totally happy with it. It's a castoff from my son. I don't need streaming. It has a crack in the screen that doesn't bother me. It works.

Why don't you get upgrades? I have a 7Plus that's in the process of downloading/installing iOS15.7 as we speak.

I'm on 15.7 already. It's iOS 16 I can't get (It was just released). You need an iPhone 8 or later to use it.

Another typical kia who identifies not with who they are but with what they own. To each their own...

This is shamelessly stolen from an article one of my kids copied and sent to me.

Check out free streaming services

Ever seen The Iron Giant? The utterly delightful first animated feature from Brad Bird is free to stream right now on Tubi. The riveting sci-fi thriller Ex Machina? Free to stream on Kanopy. Love The Rock? Watch the first season of Young Rock on Freevee.

The point is there are lots of free streaming services out there, and many of them are home to some pretty good TV and movies. Yes, you'll have to sit through commercials on most of them (library-supported Hoopla and Kanopy are the exceptions), but otherwise there's zero cost. You can even get your fill of free livestreaming news.

Here's my roundup of the best free movie streaming services and a similar batch of the best free TV streaming services. You should also check out ReelGood's compendium of movies and TV shows on free services.
