Well, from the photo I wouldn't trust them. They are small potatoes and the location doesn't look good. I would guess that they don't have any training. If you can deal with them face to face you might can decide if they are legit or not.
Not all "small potatoes" shops are bad. A number of years ago, I used the below to repair an FZ1000 with a malfunctioning screen. Granted, the repair was straightforward as he described: order the part from Panasonic and replace. Price of the screen plus around $80 for labor (as I remember). Camera came back looking like new. I was a walk-in.

I am sorry if I come across as bitchy, but the internet and Google are your friend. If you know how to be on UHH, you surely know how to do an internet search.

So, here’s a hint: the BBB, which is useless normally, has posts on it that show many unresolved issues and that this business isn’t accredited. A Google search shows 2.5 stars for 69 reviews.

I really like helping fellow UHHers, but is it too much to expect a minimum level of competence on such basic stuff?

Really? The internet and Google can be helpful? Remarkable! Perhaps I'm too old - 78 - or insufficiently educated - two MAs and a Ph.D., but it would not have occurred to me to consult the BBB, although, as you point out, it could be quite helpful.

Isn't it remarkable how something can be obvious to one person and totally obscure to another?

So, bitchy? Oh yes indeed. Helpful? Also yes.

I think UHH is a great place to ask for advice. I've asked a number of times about companies with which I am not familiar. I've been given good advice, from people who had experience with companies, that helped me make a decision. Unfortunately, UHH has become increasingly snarky since I joined a number of years ago.

Tom,
Look up the Society of Phototechnologists and they will be able to put you in touch with a legitimate repair shop. Also in your general area look up Midwest Camera repair.

Can't Tom Milbrath even ask a legitimate question ----has anybody else had experience with so and so Camera Repair in California without being hounded by this snarky crowd?---------------ew

What’s your problem? Most people have given an opinion, which he asked for.

I had a new shutter curtain installed in my Exacta by some Chinese who had just moved to Wacker Dr., Chicago from San Francisco. I also bought a telephoto from them--reasonable and good. But I am not sure of the name.-------ew

I just don’t understand. A man asks a simple questions and it engenders such nasty responses.
If someone asks me driving diemrectiins do I tell him to buy a map ?

My problem is that your response is the very problem he is pointing out.

And what purpose does your complaining have?

I agree. I thought he was using the internet for info on his question. He may be like me. I'm not as skilled or knowledgeable as some on here are. But I doubt they came out of the womb knowing what they know either. But what would I know. I'm just bitching.

Those who make bad comments about others do so because they have nothing good to say about themselves.
(since they can't lift themselves up, they push others down in an attempt to be on top)

Well you did ask. I assume it serves the same purpose as yours

I used them 2 years ago, sent a Canon T90 for a repair. It took 8 months and what I received was not what I sent. Now, it was very nice, and works fine, but I'm glad I didn't send something I cared about. Would never take this chance again.
