It was in Silver Plume, CO. I was in position because I had reached the dead end at the end of Main Street and had gone around the block to go the other way. I had come back to Main St. from a narrow dirt alley and the boarding house and dog were directly in front of me. I was also hoping to find a spot that might be protected if it started to hail hard---hence the narrow alley.
Thank you very much, and your answer leads me onto another request. That is do you mind if I share the photograph on my blog Learning from Dogs? I will obviously credit you with taking the picture.

Great capture.
Thank you. It was good fortune to have all the elements come together at the same time while I was there.

This was taken moments before a heavy rain storm. I think dog was responding to a lightning flash.
Now that is an interesting pic, containing a variety mix of interest points:
-- dog in the window
-- skull and antlers on the ledge
-- hummingbird feeders against that background
-- nice character in the weathered siding
-- K. P. , which was probably of well-known significance to residents/patrons in past history
-- updated, more modern entry doors (as it appears they are aluminium framed)
-- historical old west architectural style
-- furnishings and curtains/drapes visible through old windows, and some nice reflections included
-- etc.

No problem, that's fine with me. You don't even have to credit me, just knowing the photo was helpful to someone is nice.

I can see how your edit successfully works toward satisfying the cerebral demands of photographic guides and predetermined standards or results within certain disciplines.
For this clodhopper, though, it removes all the fascinating effects of that true-to-life upward gaze which is centrally vital to the non-cerebral, drawing-in impact that pulls the overall interest together in this scene.
Just the unimportant impression of this dustie hick.
...and the hummingbird feeders, too....

You mention a lot of things that I did not notice when I took the pic--- the humming bird feeders and the KP for example. And, at the time I thought the skull and antlers were remnants of electrical conduit and box or something like that, which would not be unusual for a building that old.
At the time, I was more concerned with just taking the pic before the dog moved. I was in a narrow alley and was hanging out of the vehicle's window and trying to get as much of the building into the frame as possible, while excluding the rear view mirror, hood and the corner of the building that was just to the left of the car. Thankfully, the dog cooperated.

Possibly. It would depend on the eye of the beholder and, among other things, if he/she wanted the entire building in the pic. The whole thing is a matter of taste.
