Nikon supplied Hot Shoe Covers for the two Z9s I bought this year! As usual! I just ordered a dozen with the level four under $9 on Amazon. Let's see what I get tomorrow. Best of luck.
Well I’m happy that Nikon is still including the hot shoe cover with their almost $6k top of the line camera. ;). As noted here some have received other Nikon cameras without the hot shoe.
Yep that 12/$9 package is a good deal.

I've never had a camera that came with a hot shoe cover. Is this an Olympus thing? Mine have always been Nikons.
All my Nikons, except my Zfc have come with a cover. I lose them on occasion too, so I bought several extras, they're fairly cheap. I always have mine on the hot shoe. The idea of having metal electrified contacts on my $2000 camera body exposed to the elements seems contrary to good camera protocol!
I have always tried to keep on on my cameras — both to keep dust, etc off the contacts, and to assist in resisting moisture. Have them now on my Olympus cameras, and try to keep them on a couple of older Nikons. Have read on tests comparing weather/moisture resistance of several current mirrorless cameras that the hot shoe is a spot where water can seep in, and that the hot shoe covers can help protect against that. If they are lost, can be easily replaced. I prefer OEM (can get from manufacturer). Bottom line, is why compromise whatever level of moisture resistance (and flash functionality) you pay for on a camera by not using what may be an important part of that resistance.

But it’s so pretty.
I do use the flash often enough so I put the cover away instead lof losing it whenever I remove it to use the flash.
Eight pages! I hate to add to it but I have the little bubble type just to cover up thing...and never thought much about it. So recently I was doing some street photography in a place where I had to shoot from the hip (literally....looong story)...and the bubble actually came in quite handy to approximately level the camera. First time it ever was actually utilized
Oly cameras, which is all I know, are quite water resistant so I do tend to shoot in wet enviorns without any rain jacket on the camera. It MAY help with keeping those contacts somewhat dry as well.

I'm wondering what the masses have to say about this. How many bother using the plastic cover that slides over and protects the hot shoe contacts on top of your camera. Is it for looks, or do you feel the protection it provides is important. I have an Olympus Pen-F (pictured) with as you can see a matching silver plastic cover over the contacts. Well, maybe I should say I "had". I've looked everywhere it should be, and everywhere it shouldn't be. I kind of like the way it looks and I dont use flash that much, so I'm thinking of going to the trouble of painting a black one that I found silver. I do think Ill like the silver look, more than the black, but how necessary is it at all. Thanks for your responses.

It seems to provide some level of protection and does no harm so why not use it??

I don't use it because where do I keep it when I use the flash?

Oh gee, your pocket maybe.

Do you dress as an Arab with no pockets?
Where do you put your cigarette when both hands are full and there is no ashtray?
Where do you keep your car keys when traveling?
Where do you keep your spare flash and camera batteries?

Still easy to loose..... even in a pocket.
Well, you can probably call Olympus and they might send you one at no charge. There are many silvers, and chances are you will not find the correct hue.

The pouch that holds the flash. A shirt or pants pocket. A small pocket on your camera bag? An empty film holder. (PM me if you don't have any and would like some of them). A zip lock plastic bag.
