I’ve noticed leaves drifting down here, while most are still green.
This may just be not a very good year for “colors” - even on a single tree, leaves may die and fall individually.

How are the fall colors, as of today ( 9-30-2022 )? schedule a trip, a while back: land in Albany, drive the path through several state parks such as Letworth, and the Scenic Byway, over to Niagara Falls, Every year, no matter where I head to, I am too early, too late, weather was too dry, weather was too wet, etc. I have the option to delay the trip if people advise me to do that. BTW, if there are any particular spots to shoot from, let me know; I have done a lot of research on Google.

Thanks in advance.

I cannot accurately report on the area you frequent, but in the "southern tier" of NY and the adjacent area of Pennsylvania, the colors are beginning now (10/1/2022). The sky is overcast and little or no rain predicted for the next six days, then only small probability for a day or so. I would say this may be the peak period for fall foliage in this area. If you make the trip now, I wish you luck. You may also may wish to extend your travels to thesouthern tier and include getting into northern PA around the Kinzua Reservoir area. That is a large area including much if the Allegany National Forest and some rolling hills and interesting overlooks.

The colors are generally at their peak a week after Columbus Day.

We live in the Catskills and good color is spotty at best right now. We were in the Adirondacks. last weekend and there wasn't much there either. I would guess by next weekend color should start getting better but 2 weeks should be ideal in the Adirondacks and 3 weeks in the Catskills. Good color before Columbus day is always iffy.

I live near Lake Ontario, about 30 min north of Syracuse & things are just starting to change. I’ve seen some muted reds & oranges mostly around swampy areas so far, but far from peak. Probably another two weeks till we see peak, but that’s just a guess. All depends on the weather.

I live in the town of Salisbury. We’ve had 2 frosts so far, but not heavy. Trees along my yard are about 20% changed. My yard changes about the same as the ADKs and much sooner than lower elevation valley areas. Our house is at 1,400 ft.

Hello Ed,

The best resource appears to be a New York State sponsored Fall Foliage link. Check the NYS Web site for particulars.

I travel regularly between Rochester and Utica. Just came back from Utica area to my home north of Syracuse. Colors are just (barely) starting to show.

Kurt Gardner is a photographer in old forge. Find him on FB or look him up on the innerweb. Or perhaps Carl Heilman. Both do great photo work in the ADKs…

Morning,

10/2/22

I live in NY but very close to Bennington, VT. Things are just starting to change here. Still a week or two before peak color.

The Weather Channel gives a map that shows peak color, in different states.

I took a drive today north into the southern adirondack park and color is maybe 30% but seems to be very muted, I didn't even stop to shot anything it was so dull, when I looked at the prediction maps it looks like things are slower than usual. usually by now the lake placid area is at peak or a little past peak the map said its nearing peak.
