What about Martin Kane - Private Eye (1949-1954 or so) for its integrated commercials. Kane used a tobacco shop to receive messages, and he would stop in a couple of times per episode to check 'em. While he then went off stage to return calls, the proprietor would sell a customer some tobacco product of the sponsor. Not great for syndication, of course, but nobody thought about that during the early days of TV.
I was very young at the time and had limited TV-watching privileges, but I don't recall any other show that did commercials this way.
NYPD BLUE gotta be in there.

Wrangler, I hate to say it but production company still get paid for advertising certain products, a bunch of money. That is why you see shows with only GM products, or Ford, or Chrysler. Also other products that are the in scenes
For a while is considered advertisement and they get paid for it, any product that has a prominent role are making money for the production company.
BMW paid 3 million dollars to have that sports car that got sawed in half in a James Bond movie.
How about Quincy and Frasier
Two other comedy shows to consider: The Smothers Brothers Show and Laugh-In.
Lots of great shows have been listed, lots left out as well. One left out: The Dean Martin Show.

More left out, as I think of it. Burns and Allen. Leave it to Beaver. Father Knows Best. Dick Van Dyke. Laverne and Shirley (Hilarious physical comedy reminiscent of Lucy.) Green Acres. Andy Griffith until Barney left the show. The Rockford Files. The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The Abbot and Costello show. And I agree with you about Gunsmoke. I was amazed at the depth of some of the episodes as I watched some reruns recently. And let's not forget Bonanza. Mostly fluff, but toward the end when Michael Landon took over the show and did some of the writing, it got pretty serious. He used some of the plots and music in Little House. Hey, how about that Gilligan's Island? (Ducking)

I agree NYPD Blue is one of the best but I don't think it rose to the quality of Hill Street Blues which seemed to me to be a little darker in both appearance and content. It just looked more real and not as much of a Hollywood production.

These lists are entirely subjective and somewhat generational. Some really great shows are simply forgotten over time. I Love Lucy always gets mentioned, but what about Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, Car 54 Where Are You, Dobie Gillis, Route 66 and others of that general era?
In MY humble opinion, no list is complete without Everybody Loves Raymond, Scrubs, China Beach, Magnum PI, Little House on the Prairie, The Wonder Years and All in the Family. In MY humble opinion, MASH was on for too long and devolved into the Alan Alda ego show. But that's me.

Yes, the Wonder Years was excellent as were E. L. Raymond, China Beach, and All In the Family. MASH may have devolved (as you put it) into the Alan Alda show, but give him credit. He was really good in that role and the same could be said about other shows such as Carroll O'Conner as Archie.

Big Bang Theory.
Good show but maybe set a new high for laugh tracks which made it unwatchable for me.
