I checked without a lens attached. Went from 95% to 31% in one hour.

I assume the camera was left turned on without the lens attached.
Did the camera feel warm to the touch after an hour?
Is there a memory card or two in their slots. Try removing them if so.

Camera was left off, that's the issue. Battery drains just being in the camera.

They're probably going to say 'send it in', but you should call Nikon technical support first before sending.

There is something way off with that. Definitely sounds as though it's something in the camera. A few months go, I noticed that my D500's batteries seemed to be draining way faster than usual. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to find any sort of pattern like weather, more chimping than usual, and the like. Double checked all the settings that can drain the batteries even without shooting. Nope - all good - no accidental changes. Even the professional with whom I sometimes shoot couldn't come up with anything else other than "well, that's not supposed to be happening". Total bafflement. I am now in Africa & bought a second D500 body from a fellow member "just in case". Both the D500's are with me right now. My D500 is over 5 years old and has around 130k clicks on it, but even so.
Please keep us all posted on your situation.
