Sent a D750 into Nikon for repair, ERR code, had never had an issue with battery life prior to that. Upon return, battery left in camera will drain to 0% within 12 hours. Double checked camera off. Happens without regard to type of lens attached. Any ideas what may cause this?

Check and turn off the GPS, if applicable.

No GPS in the 750 but be sure WiFi is off.

The D750 that I have does not have built in GPS but rather requires a separate device. Thanks for the suggestion, I would have never known other wise.

If it drains the battery in 12 hours the camera has problem. You will have to send it back to Nikon for repair. Of course remove the battery and see if it loses power to make sure you don't just have a bad battery.

Best suggestion so far. Another would be to try another battery if available.

I have three batteries, each of them show to be new according to the battery check in camera. The same result with each of them, drains rapidly. Thank you for the answers, best bet will be to send it back to Nikon.

Maybe the only battery question left to ask are:
1. Are they 3rd party mfr. batteries, or Nikon? (Nikon says theirs are better, so that means they must be)
2. Are they all about the same age (and not all that new)?

I'm sure you have considered this, but you just never know.

Interesting that would happen.
Perhaps for some reason it is not fully powering down even though it is "off" .
I have noticed that my 7D is having that problem lately.
Not worth repairing, just keep battery out except when shooting.

Most camera power on/off switch only sends signal to the logic circuit which in turn turns on the solid state switching device to turn the camera on. That way the camera could keep the power on even when the user turns it off at the wrong time for example before flushing the buffer. These solid state switching devices can develop current leakage and drain the battery.

Here is an oddball fix that defies logic but worked on my d850. Are you in airplane mode in the main setup menu? Do you leave the on/off flip switch in the on mode knowing that the timer circuits will switch everything off?
I found doing both of those at once drained perfectly good batteries in hours.
Solution was turning off airplane mode.

Now I know. Glad this was asked and now answered.
Thank you.

If this issue was present on return from Nikon for ERR service, Nikon may very well have not properly repaired it. I would simply contact Nikon again, they will have a record of the camera based on serial number & if it is returned within the time period, should repair it for free.
