The almighty dollar and greed are the reasons for the early placement of holiday related goods and advertisements.

I think putting up before Halloween is way to early.

Same here, except for the parenthetical phrase. I can't even convince myself that it applies to me.

I have a neighbor that never took theirs down. I'm not sure if they are too late or too early :-)

I hate to tell you this, but today is December 12.

The name of the game is to make money. You can't make money if you don't sell products.

When you're putting up several thousand lights and computer-controlled lights and sound, you have to start early. I'm already seeing "pumpkin spice" mentioned here and there.

I don't know why they think it's better to sell Halloween decorations in September rather than October.

Now that you mention it, I'd start working on my Christmas list.

My dogs like pumpkin spice greenies.

In my opinion and experience, after Thanksgiving is the correct time for the Christmas season. In this country, it's all the "ber" months plus January, but it is celebrated as Christmas, and not "Xmas" or "holiday season", and complete with carols in all the stores, along with the appropriate decorations!!!

I don’t think you can celebrate Christmas in America anymore. Remember it might offend someone

I can defend one group of stores in their Christmas displays and products. That is the Arts and Crafts industry. If you are going to make a hand made gift for someone, you need to start early. Many projects take months to complete. I worked in the industry for 25 years and people were asking in June when our Christmas would be out. The big box stores, just for the money.

The arts and crafts store I go to has a section for Christmas oriented stuff all year round, but it's not like a full blown Christmas department.

(I grew up with the day after Thanksgiving.)

But it's all about marketing now.

It’s all about greed. I worked in Retail in the 70s. Christmas season began the day after Thanksgiving.

They can put the Christmas stuff out for sale whenever they want, that doesn't mean I will buy or look at them. Anyway there are stores that sell only Christmas items that are open all year and they do a good business the year around. There is a big on in Frankenmuth, Michigan. I also know of a Halloween store that sells year around. Yes there are people who are nuts about both. They are harmless.

My beef is that by the end of June you can’t find warm weather clothes in the department stores. And by the end of December you can’t find cold weather clothes.

My wife and I were out running errands this afternoon and evening that involved a good bit of driving. We both noticed the same thing and commented on it. We're not even halfway through September and the new school semester only started a couple weeks ago, and it is still summer, and people are already putting up Christmas decorations. We went to two different big box stores and both had fully stocked Christmas departments open, and it is still summer. It wasn't that long ago when they didn't start shoving Christmas down our throats at least until after Halloween. Who thinks this is just way too early to kick off Christmas? After all, it is still summer, for at least another 11 days.

In our country, Christmas starts at the "ber" months. That is September 1, and stops when replaced with valentine
When i was younger, the light decoration in our windows were never taken down. It is just turned off for the rest of the months.
But since 2005, I do not celebrate Christmas anymore. That year, 2am of December 25, we were woken up by fire. My mother in law, sister in law, her 5 year old child and the aunt who nanny my wife in her youth died.

My goodness, I can't think of anything worse. I'm sorry for your loss. I can see where you'd want to forget that Holiday.
