One of my early memories was my Dad's National Geographic coverage of Queen Elizabeth's coronation. She has been there my entire life. Now she isn't. I grieve with the Brits & the world the loss of this gracious and dedicated Lady.

We've lost an exceptional human being who I doubt will ever be replaced. It was from watching "The Crown" that I learned so much more about her. Condolences to our "mates across the pond".

Please don’t allow yourself to be influenced too much by The Crown. It’s good entertainment, but riddled with inaccuracies.

I too will miss her. She was dedicated to her role and steady as the Rock of Gibraltar.

I hope this reply isn't sent to the attic but cant help but think what a special person the Queen was. And, more importantly, how woefully short most of our government leaders come up when compared to her.

I heard what I thought was an interesting comparison that other day that the monarchy of England represented to the English people being similar to what the Flag represents to the American people. In England, they have a living entity, above politics, that represents the values, traditions, etc. of the country. It’s a place people can look for guidance on what we are supposed to represent. Although I definitely respect the intent of our flag as guidance of the spirit and intent of the American government, to me, too many fall below that and follow the personalities of politics (whether good or bad). Politics, by its nature is decisive, and we as a county are definitely currently divided. How do we get back to the some degree to unity as to what our founding forefathers intended the country to be. Do we need something more than the flag, like a constitutional monarchy, above the politics. Just something that has crossed my mind as I watch the “story” about what is going on with the passage of Queen Elizabeth.

Some good thoughts there. As much as I love America and for what it has done for the world in beating down unhealthy governments, one thing I really like about the Parliamentary form of government is their ability to exercise a no-confidence vote and get underperforming politicians out of office. Here in America we are stuck with duds for 2, 4, or 6 years unless they do something totally egregious to the point of criminal acts.

Actually, we're stuck with many of them for life if we don't institute term limits. And lately even criminal acts don't seem to be punished

Ditto. There is a tendency for people to dwell on all the wealth, palaces, staffing, etc., (trappings?)but I think the reality would be more akin to living ones life in a 5 star hotel, where you are required at all times to keep socially distant, while occasionally entering the fishbowl to make public appearances that I suspect one would rather not do. It would take a very special and dedicated person to commit to such a life, and without a doubt Queen Elizabeth was just such a person. My condolences to all who feel her loss.

I always thought she was a mechanic and could completely disassemble and reassemble engines at will. In any event, her work during the war set a solid foundation and example and has always been one of the things I admired about her. She may have been Queen but she was just as much another British citizen as anyone else. A quality many of our supposed leaders could learn from and benefit from. She will be a very hard act to follow, to use the old saying.

My condolences on your loss of Queen Elizabeth II. She was one of the world’s great leaders.
She reigned for so long that multiple generations have known no other Monarch.
I was in Canada in 1953 during the coronation. I recall it being said that it was the first televised royal event.

Her funeral will be the most epic event most of the modern world will witness in their lifetime.

Charles has big shoes to fill. Sadly, Diana is not by his side.

She worked then as a mechanic as well. I have admired her greatly. I will miss her presence on the world stage.
