The last shot is excellent!

I appreciate you taking a look and commenting. I mean that very much. But I am afraid you would have to take it up with the Merlin Guide. I know nothing about birds and have admitted as much several times here. Killdeer-Plover, call it what you like but my photo submitted to Merlin says it is a Common Large Plover. Thanks again for commenting.

Installed the Merlin app on my phone and ran your 2nd photo through the Photo ID feature and came up with...Kildeer as I predicted.
Interesting. I just took a photo of your photo and ran it through Merlin - it came up with Kildeer. Kildeer are in the plover family. I've never heard of a Common Large Plover, and can't find it in a couple of lists of North American plovers.

While visiting some mineral pools at Yellowstone National Park I noticed this bird taking a bath in one of the mineral pools at Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces. My Merlin guide tells me it is a Common Large Plover. Thanks Merlin for the assist.
Please feel free to make any comments.

Both Peterson and Nat'l Geo field guides show it as a Killdeer. Neither reference lists Common Large Plover. Merlin must be using a generic description.

Common, large plover. Slender shape with long wings and tail. Look for two black breast bands, unique among plovers in its range. Often nests near human development: parking lots, school roofs, road edges, and farms, usually on bare gravel. Adults perform broken-wing displays to distract predators from their nests and young.
As I have said before I am happy with whatever my bird is. I am not a birder nor do I really care what it is. I enjoy taking photos of birds. As I said, I inserted my photo in Merlin and it came back as a Common Large Plover. For the life of me I cannot think of a reason I would lie about it. But when you tell me there is no Common Large Plover it does get a bit weird here.

Thank you jederick for taking a look.

As I have said a few times now, I put my photo in Merlin and it came up as Common Large Plover. Again, as I have said before I don't really care. Call it what you want. But please do not make it seem as if I lied about the name of a bird. You continue to bring it up and I am not sure why. Do you have the need to be correct? OK you are correct.
Dennis
Jack I believe you. I am not upset and can believe Merlin can make a mistake. I just don't care.
It is the photos I submitted for enjoyment and I think I achieved that. Thanks for your comment.
