While visiting some mineral pools at Yellowstone National Park I noticed this bird taking a bath in one of the mineral pools at Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces. My Merlin guide tells me it is a Common Large Plover. Thanks Merlin for the assist.

Please feel free to make any comments.

Thank you kpmac. I had to look it up (I have to look all birds up) since it looks very similar to the Killdeer and other birds I run across on the California beach when I am there. I appreciate your comment.

While the Kildeer and the Plover are in the same genus, I would have to say the bird in your pics is definitely a Kildeer...sorry.

I appreciate you taking a look and commenting. I mean that very much. But I am afraid you would have to take it up with the Merlin Guide. I know nothing about birds and have admitted as much several times here. Killdeer-Plover, call it what you like but my photo submitted to Merlin says it is a Common Large Plover. Thanks again for commenting.
