Just thought of one other negative with the RX100 that affects me, but might not others. I am a right eye shooter and since the rear screen is a touch screen, when I put my eye to the finder, my nose moves the focus point all over the place. Or, depending on how the touch screen is configured, my nose may trip shutter or do something else. Since I like to use adjustable (moveable) focus spot, I disable the rear screen touch feature. Not sure if you are a more traditional left eye shooter, there would be a problem

Appreciate that but I am a left eye guy. I'm sure it will be of help to other right eyed shooters

Steve, here’s a couple shots I took with my M7 while on our cruise in 2019. I was pretty happy with how these turned out. I think they would print nicely to at least 11x14 or 16x20 perhaps. Check them out in download.

THAT is exactly what I want to know. The A7rII has more resolution but I have to do my own comparisons. Thanks so much!

Here is a comparison I shot using my a7, a6500 and rx100

I don't think you have enough range with your AR7Rii, 60mm isn't much. On a cruise just before the pandemic I took my DSLR with an 18-300 zoom for onboard and my Lumix DMC-ZS100 for shore excursions for portability. I found the 250mm end of the Lumix inadequate.

Unless it is really important to get top quality images, I'd vote for the RX100vii

I'm definitely considering it as my only. It's coming either way.

The RX100vii Does produce Top Quality Images! I own this camera. Have you ever used one? You can zoom and crop images and use software like Topaz to correct almost everything! I’m also a Topaz fan.

I just got it I've used it a couple of times so far. Not extensively yet

We’re planning a trip to the Middle East next year and have been searching for that perfect travel camera like you. We had tried the RX100vii briefly last year and gave up on it, perhaps too quickly. Although we are very concerned about the desert sand and lack of weatherproofing.
We have a Canon R5 system and don’t want to lug that on a non-photography centric trip. But we love fullframe and the Sony A7C. Much smaller and lighter than the Canon and with a fast prime and a zoom, might meet our needs. Then again, we are renting a Nikon Zfc to give that a try out; again a fast prime and a compact zoom.
I guess this photographer’s quandary, is something a lot of us are facing, as we are aging. I enjoyed the discussion and hope to hear about your experience next year.

Any Point and shoot will be better that a changeable lens camera for being sealed against dust and dirt. Especially if you change lenses. I vote for the Sony RX100 series. Besides that it is very pocketable if the weather gets bad.

I appreciate your suggestion! I don't think I want to change cameras at this point in time. The glass is the same anyway. I do already have the A7C kit lens which.is pretty good on the A7r2 and makes for a pretty small outfit. I'm leaning towards taking that outfit, the 16-35mm and the RX. I don't think I can go on a trip like this and not take my best. Maybe if I didn't have it! Lol!

I faced the same lens choice dilemma when I changed to aq full frame Sony A 7 IV. I have a LA EA5 adaptor so U can use ny /a mount lenses. I needed a cl4-1

The A7rII takes only the Laea4, which I have. The only A mount lens I have is a Minolta 100-300mm. But that gets into taking too much again. I think the 28-60mm, the 16-35mm and the RX in my pocket is the winning combination for me. This has been a great discussion!

My wife and I are in Iceland currently and we have RX100 VIIs along with our Pan G9’s and 5 lenses between us plus a camcorder. Frankly I enjoy selecting the best lens for the occasion but my wife’s Oly 12-100 f/4 (24-200 equiv.) is a great lens for most everything. We love to use the RX100s as backups but frankly from what I am seeing the RX100s will work for everything except when you need a water sealed kit and when you need to be below f2.8, but that probably will not be a problem unless you find yourself in a very dark cathedral. We like multiple cameras just in case one gets compromised and it almost happened to us today. We have three Sony batteries each which is about 750 shots. I recommend you take at least that many. Enjoy Portugal, we’ve been there many times and love the country.
