I love this cartoon!

Me too. I have had it for a few years. As a free lance photographer for a local paper, I deal with this often.

A good photo is all about the light, the subject, and the composition. The device used is of lesser importance. That’s my opinion anyway.

I know two people who spent six months creating incredibly gorgeous quilts. I don't understand why they didn't just buy them at Target?

Oh my gosh, Linda!! I have to be careful not to share this thread with my wife, an avid quilter!

But the people you know live in the US right so what they made are made in the USA and what they can buy at target are not.
Just kidding....

I have a daughter that whips out the Ipad and takes great landscape photos. Everything front to back is in focus and clear as a bell just compose and shoot. What gives?

The photo is more suited to her Ipad. You pick the right subjects for the right cameras.

It was a joke I am the thankful recipient of one of those gorgeous, painstakingly homemade quilts!

I believe this is why the long time professional photographers are doing photo tours. They can't sell as many images as they have in the past.
Now with phones, Ipad's everyone is a photographer!!!

Cool - and at the same time, unfortunate for people with real talent 🍧😁🍧😁🍧

Other posts have commented on the increasingly huge amount of Post Processing provided in the Smartphones.
This would tend to level the field somewhat between "Interchangeable Lens" Cameras and Smartphones

She is using her iPad camera for what it was designed. It wasn’t designed to be an all-around camera for any kind of shot. Example, I saw a beautiful sunset a few days ago and all I had was my Samsung S 21. The several pictures I took were terrible. No amount of postprocessing would make them look good. On the other hand, I have some very nice 11 x 14 prints made from a Samsung S5. But those were landscapes with good lighting.

If you want quick and easy, the most recent smartphones have multiple cameras for different focal lengths, small sensors for great depth of field, simple operation, and a great interface to view and share photos. This is so much more than we used to have that there is very little reason to spend money on actual cameras. Unless you want to stretch the envelope.

Sometimes, an iphone is all you really need.

A few years ago a photographer friend went to Italy. He set up his Canon DSLR on a tripo for a shot of gargoyles, waited for the light. Just when he snapped the shutter his wife stuck her iPad into the frame and took a pic. He told me “the worst part is her pic is better”.

Technology is changing and enabling people to take good quality images with less effort and time. Some people embrace it. Some deny it. But technology marches on regardless of what they think.

Guess that wife was the better photographer too. Funny how these stories always reveal the truth of the matter.

I agree and it might be fun to try an Ipad.
