I have a daughter that whips out the Ipad and takes great landscape photos. Everything front to back is in focus and clear as a bell just compose and shoot. What gives?
She's a better photographer than the person with the DSLR?
I am not saying I can't do it. I guess I am a little jealous of the little effort she put into it. Maybe smartphones are the same. I do not own either.

As noted above, the technology of the iPad is biased toward a sharp depth of field. You might want to consider other attributes too. When zoomed to the 1:1 pixel level, are the details just as sharp and detailed as a successful (good) DSLR result? This includes both the 1:1 details on your monitor and both image files printed to the same physical dimensions. Does the iPad capture in RAW? Is the comparison for all photography or just landscapes? How does the iPad perform in low(er) light? Are there flaws in the shooting technique of the DSLR user that lowers the output quality?

You can do it, with pretty much any camera if you know how. Photography with a smart phone or any phone with a digital camera, is very similar to photography with an ipad or other similar device, just not as obnoxious.

Isn't the result of effort its own reward? Every photography hobbyist has the choice to do as much or little - in every step - as they want. The joy of the process!
I know two people who spent six months creating incredibly gorgeous quilts. I don't understand why they didn't just buy them at Target?

She has steady hands. Let's see how an 85-year-old can do with that. My lack of steadiness is why I prefer a camera to a phone or a tablet.
I believe this is why the long time professional photographers are doing photo tours. They can't sell as many images as they have in the past. Now with phones, Ipad's everyone is a photographer!!!
