Is the idea supposed to be that the best selling cameras are the best cameras?

Looks like the A7-4 is the sweet spot. If you're not shooting wildlife for your main subject.

"I read that the over all sales champ for mirrorless in Japan the last several years or so has been the Canon M bodies and now the R's added together."

In 2020 it was the Olympus EM-10 Mk III the most popular and best selling mirrorless camera in Japan."

I think the Japanese like expensive cameras.

I don't see one camera on that list that I would care to own.

I've got and like the R6 and there are a few more I wouldn't mind having.

Something against Canon and Sony?
Those are pretty impressive cameras and many are way ahead of a D850 in image quality and capabilities.

If Ansel were alive today, I wonder what camera he would use and why. I also wonder if it was the brand and model of camera that he used that made him an icon in photography. Could he have done it with another brand?

He probably uses whatever on permanent loan to him. He doesn't have to buy cameras later in his life let alone now.

One thought, I am sure if Nikon could fill all those backed up Nikon Z9 orders, the Z9 would have surely made this top ten sales list. Cheers to all brand users.

The Z9 is an uber expensive mostly niche model used by professionals and advanced amateurs. It is very unlikely that enough of them would be sold to make the list. The fact that the Z30 made the list is a bit surprising since early reviews of this camera were not very positive.

Japan’s largest camera retailer. Yodabashi Camera’... (show quote)

The last report I saw for all of Japan indicated was Sony, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, Nikon, and Fuji. Of course, the "lion's share" was Sony and Canon. Both the OM-1 and GH6 are making a difference for Olympus and Panasonic.
