If she was searching she would probably use the binoculars around her neck, no?

Maybe, no rule of the universe dictates rationality.
At the local Gun club it seems that every couple of years someone gets a half moon scar from a scope. From sighting in days they hold every fall. I have prevented a few just by warning the shooter, when they seem too close. They really bleed a lot..
“You’ll poke your eye out!”😳
I’ve seen that before but it’s still hilarious. I learned about recoil from shooting my Dad’s double-barreled 12 gauge.

Ha-ha. I think your response nails it !
I hope that's a .22 rimfire or there is a trip to the emergency on the way.

This took me back to my days in Basic Training. Our sergeant wanted to demonstrate the "kick" by placing the stock of a M-16 against his crotch. After he pulled the trigger, he found out that the "kick" had a bigger bite than he expected.
Add this to "another thing you may not want to do" list.
Anecdote: When I fired my M-14 prone, it always pushed me back a full inch! I was not a small guy, either. And it did hurt my elbows by scraping them along the ground.

I tried to make the firing range a regular part of my week and I would wince in pain seeing novices firing a semi-automatic pistol with their thumb on or behind the slide. OUCH...!

I had a ex who wanted to shoot like in the moves.
30-06, lite stock, barely touching the thigh.
She learned how to bump fire a full clip,
and how to take care of a bone bruise.
