I have seen people doing that who are using the scope to search for something, but never with the finger near the trigger. I have not seen anyone fire like that and I suspect that unless it is a very mild recoiling gun they wouldn't do it more than once.

And, that was a waste of time.

There is this optical concept called “eye relief”.

Get too close and you can’t focus on anything.

With many good grades of scope, you can adjust the eye relief. I remember one that the adjustment dial went from "eyeball print on the rear lens" to "sit across the room and squint to see tiny image circle"
