Pigeon Forge is a great place. Down the 'Parkway' follow into Gatlinberg. There is a lot to do in G'burg. Cades Cove is another place to visit. There are a number of National Parks and very picturesque drives. Heading down any road will usually lead you to a land of great surprises to photograph. Enjoy and have lot of fun.

Will do, thank you my friend.

Clingmans Dome is not for the faint of cardio. It’s a one mile uphill slope to the top!
At Cades Cove there are a lot of buildings that have parking.
I go through in the early morning before the clouds make it an almost impossible journey. One afternoon we drove by and a warning sign stated that ‘from this point it will be three hours to the entrance of Cades Cove.’ Once inside the drive is two hours without traffic. The one advantage is that the road is a one way loop. One day it is closed to foot and bicycle traffic only until about 10 am.

Yes Sir, my wife has that on the list, thanks.

Absolutely, several have warned us of that.

When we were there back in 08, the Aquarium in Gatlinburg was a good adventure and we also took in a Saturday Market up the street a ways on the left.

I would like to add a beautiful falls just out of Tellico Plains called Bald River Falls. It is one of the most spectacular in the area and there probably won't be a large crowd. You have been given some great places to visit. For sure don't miss Cades Cove. Abrams Falls is at the back of the loop with a short hike to it. You should bring lots of "film".

I will certainly post photos although I will have to get with my HH family to figure it out because I have never posted photos here. I will be taking all three DSLRs and a good variety of lenses so I'm anticipating some really great photo opportunities. Again, I want to thank you for all of the information and suggestions. I wish it were possible to meet my HH family because you people are a rare breed in this crazy, sick world in which we live......a breath of fresh air.

Early mornings in Cades Cove will have more animals present, but they also don't allow cars till about 9 or 10 a.m. You'll have to ask at Sugarlands or in Cades Cove. One thing though, if you are on the loop in Cades Cove in the afternoon thinking you will be out by sunset, think again. If you go in the a.m. and visit the grist mill at the mid-point in the loop and can be leaving there by 2 or 3, you may not get caught in the bumper to bumper slow traffic out. It is really slow and you will just be inching along. Again, ask the rangers when to be around it by to not get caught in the traffic.

Well that's a bummer, not being able to get in via vehicle until late morning but I will ask the Rangers. Also, someone said that there might be bikes for rent.

Yes, they do rent and that is the best way to see the cove. The bikes can go in anytime, so to go before the cars is great, but they probably will catch you unless you are early. The loop is one lane, one way.

I second the Cades Cove suggestion. Unfortunately, it is extremely popular. If you aren't going to bike it on a Wed, you need to plan on being in line when it open to avoid the worst of the crowds an improve your odds of seeing wildlife.

Yep, that's what someone had suggested. I'm seriously considering the Wednesday bike ride.

I believe some of the info provided in this post is outdated. Here is the latest on Cades cove from the national park service website for this year
Quote

Cades Cove Loop Road: Vehicle-free access along the Cades Cove Loop Road each Wednesday, from May 4th through September 28th. Otherwise the road is open daily from sunrise until sunset, weather permitting.

As I said earlier, be there lined up to go in before sunrise. On Wednesday you can go there park your car and enter the loop on foot or bicycle. They do not allow any cars on Wednesday during the summer up to and including September 28

My wife was telling me just yesterday that she had read where the Loop was open from sunrise to sunset to cars except on Wednesdays. Thanks again for the update.

If you are into bird photography you may want to check out Seven Island State Birding Park. It is in the area: https://tnstateparks.com/parks/seven-islands.
