When I got on line with problems, I let them into my computer to computer to find the problem. Much easier for my brain.

I would assume most would undertake such basics before considering a fresh system.

Do you remember your Windows activation code? How about Topaz if you use it?

I will see if I can find a restore date in early June and try that. Thank you.

Exactly my previous suggestion. And if that doesn’t work, perhaps the OP could provide a bit more detail on the graphics card (model and amount of VRAM?) and the version of Windows?

I would use System Restore and bring it back to a time prior to the problems.

Are you using Windows software in your computer? Look into your OS see if the is something wrong there.

I wanted to do a slide show with Lightroom in June. Adobe's technician went on my computer in June and since then I have not been able to use Photoshop without the blue screen of death (crashes). I have had multiple technicians "help" but each one has made another issue worse (such as not being able to read PDFs). My case has been escalated several times. There have been multiple call backs scheduled in which I was not called back. I have called and been promised that someone would call me back. I have changed my schedule around multiple times (including waiting for nature so that I could answer the phone) only to be disappointed and frustrated. I am ready to use other software but not sure which. I used the trial version of Luminar, but I was not happy with selecting an area. I have a trial of Affinity, but there is a learning curve that I have not mastered. Does anyone have suggestions of other software that is powerful, but also doesn't require multiple hours of learning (which I have already done for Photoshop)?

Nope, that is the best ecosystem out there. To become proficient with any other system is going to take an investment of time, no matter which way you go. Affinity is probably the closest to PS, but you've already eliminated that option.

Regarding your other problems, PS is used successfully by millions on a daily basis. I would suggest looking to MS for answers. All it sounds like is that you had a pending windows problem that was triggered by the adobe technician.

That is ridiculous.

I agree. it is ridiculous. You can reinstall Windows using Windows Media Creator and choosing the option to retain all instslled programs and data.

You can do that, but there’s zero guarantee that will fix the issue. Media Creation tool is essentially cloning SW. if the problem is in the OS, it may or may not fix the issue, but if the issue is with the PS installation or graphics card, it will just duplicate the issue, the correct fix is to diagnose the issue - just not that hard to read the logs.

I just got off the phone (I called to find out when they are calling me with a call time). It is now in the hands of their engineers and they will call me in 7 to 10 business days. I've waited 2 months (a little less). I might as well wait 2 more weeks. BUT, it discourages me from even using my camera other than with jpg. Arg.

All logs and error reports have been sent to Adobe. I have a NVIDA geforce GTX. All mechanical parts have been checked more than once. All drivers updated multiple times. I don't remember why the technician originally went on since it is 2 months already, but it had to do something with the slideshow not working. I use Photoshop and Camera Raw most of the time, and only use Lightroom for the slideshow. I don't keep the program on the computer because if I kept all of the Adobe programs on my hard drive. I have looked at Luminar and Affinity. Today, I will try the Capture One. I am very frustrated with the lack of knowledge of the Adobe technicians and the lack of responsibility of keeping appointments that they set up (and send follow-up emails to insure that I will be sitting in front of my computer at that time).

No pretense of being able to assist, BUT the "I don't keep the program on the computer..." statement is incomplete, and may have something to do with it.

The program [LR? PS?] is external to the computer? Could there be an issue with an anti-virus program throwing a firewall against the rather powerful - and now recognizably foreign - Adobe products? If I remember correctly, Norton did an upgrade "about two months ago". Coincidence?

I disagree with your statement that the Media Creation Tool is a cloning tool. It is used to repair an existing OS installation or to upgrade to a newer version. I have used the Media Creation Tool on more than one occasion to repair an OS that has one or more corrupted files. The repair can be done without affecting installed programs or your personal data. You can access Microsoft’s WEB page for a more detailed explanation of the capabilities.

I recently had a computer issue that was finally resolved by reinstalling Windows 11. I was reluctant to have the Dell Tech do this not wanting to go through the challange of reinstalling all of my programs. However, the reinstall media gives the option of doiing a reinstall leaving your apps and personal files untouched. We did this. It took about thirty minutes including several restarts, but then the computer booted up and ran like new with all of my programs intact and available.
