Interesting. Radcliffe is now a suburb of Manchester - certainly it would have been a heavily industrialised area, but 18” of soot per annum sounds unbearable!

We had a couple of older time pieces from Dee’s grandparents. They were the only things she wanted from their belongings that she grew up with and had many memories from her childhood about them both. The one from her Mother’s parents set on a buffet and our daughter now has it in her home. This other from her Father’s parents hangs on a wall outside our bedroom entry.
