Sure are a lot of folks who have never used a Domke bag. Too bad............

These Domke bags don't appeal to me on any level.

Lechemere started in Cambridge MA. I went to school in Cambridge for 4 years in the 70s, so I'm familiar with the store. They were bought by the parent company that owns Target and then sold to Montgomery Ward. When Montgomery Ward filed for bankruptcy, that was the end of them. 27 stores were closed.

Thanks for the info. We shopped at the one in Albany when we were in the area.

I have this Think Tank bag. It is pricey, but well worth it.
I have one of those!! I bought and sold, or gave away, many bags before I got that one. It’s the last one I bought. And It’s not for sale.

I saw someone trying to buy one used here on UHH, lots of responses but nobody wanted to sell. Lol.

When I give talks to travel groups about photography I alway recommend Diaper bags. They are usually water proof, lots of pockets and padded. I also tell them to put a baby bottle (filled with water) in one of the visible outside pockets to add to the diaper realism vs camera bag.
My favorite everyday camera bag is an Orvis fishing reel bag. like this one. I have used it now for over 40 years and still going strong. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334512398480?hash=item4de27e2090:g:1UkAAOSwJCZi3akh

And maybe a pacifier dangling on the outside of the bag to complete the deception.

Hah! The Seattle branch of our family just left after a visit and I found a binkie under the couch.
Finders, keepers!

If you don't have an F-2 you aren't a real photographer. :)

I have the Lowepro Slingshot SL 250. I've used it twice, once for a one afternoon car show, and then for an almost two week cruise and land tour of southern Alaska. For the car show it was ok, easy to stow the camera for talking to friends or lunch.

It was a gift from one of my daughters, so I tried to use it as my main backpack on the trip. That said, here are some thoughts on this bag

> It is comfortable to carry all day. For hiking around it stayed under control much better than my other squarish shoulder bag

>While you can reach the camera compartment easily, you have to remove the bag to get at the other compartments.

> Removing the bag is not as convenient as removing a regular back pack. Half the time I ended up with my glasses and hat askew, if not totally removed.

>The bag will hold 1.0 DSLR's plus a few small accessories. Nothing more. For a day long excursion where you might want a water bottle and a sweater or raincoat for changing conditions, there is no extra room. My wife had to carry this stuff for both of us.

>On the planes we flew on, it was too tall to fit under the seat sideways, and stuck out annoyingly far if turned the other way.

So like anything else, this bag seems good for some situations, but not others.

I'm never decided about which of the bags I have. My wife once asked me why I have so many (not that many!) and I asked her why she has so many purses.
Right now, I'm using a "sling" style with side entry. Guess it will suit me for a while.

George

I figured the sling was for your broken arm after asking your wife that question?

My problem is a bad neck so any pressure on my upper shoulders kills me. So I’ve gone away from heavy DSLRs to mirrorless with lighter weight mirrorless lens which I carry either with just the Cotton Carrier belt or a waist bag. Anyone interested in sling bags or backpacks let me know. They are just taking up room in my office.

I live my cotton carrier vest camera holder. Camera and long lines are a breeze to carry and 2 hands free

I had a Domke bag, with a zipper across the top. It was either scratching my hand and or the camera.

So what would you use if you were going on a month long photography workshop trip in Europe, with 4 cameras (2 mine, 2 husband), 20mm lens, 50mm lens, 24-70 lens, and 70-200? Plus 15” laptop, and all the accessories that go with this?
I got a rolling carryon Pelican case that will probably weigh 20-30 lbs filled. Fits in overhead but needs tall person to help put it in.
Need something like a plain backpack with camera inserts for daily trips, something ugly and boring.
We are older, I can’t carry heavy backpack through airports anymore.

I don't have a 3-D printed handgun or ammo, so those pockets would go to waste. I do have tactical pants, though, and they have a pocket for an ammo clip. Maybe I should get some ammo.

.... and don't forget the gun..., unless you are adept at tossing the ammo by hand??

I had my back pack filled. TSA made me empty it because xray couldnt see through multiple layers of metal cameras and lenes. I took a lot if time to organize it but then to get everything back in place was a challenge. Hint after or while packing take few quick cell phone photos to help you repack in same spots
