Just received my R7 took it out for a test run, really like it. However, when I downloaded my images Adobe PhotoShop would not open RAW images. No problem with jpeg. Any idea why? I checked and they are RAW images not cRAW.

Perhaps Adobe Camera Raw doesn't support the file format yet. The R7 is quite new. The latest update released 07/20/2022 would support it. I think perhaps you need to do an update of ACR.

Camera is too new and the software hasn't been updated yet. You'll have to be patient. Odds are Adobe will update the free DNG converter before they get PS/LR updated and you could try downloading that in the meantime. You would then be able to convert the raw files from the camera to DNG files that PS would recognize.

Note, Canon offers its Digital Photo Professional software free of charge.

Also, I found an interesting solution in a DPReview forum thread (https://www.dpreview.com/forums/1070):

"You can use EXIF tool and modify the R7 RAW files so that Lightroom (ACR) will handle them like they are from an R3.

This is the commandline:

exiftool -Model="Canon EOS R3" -CanonImageType="Canon EOS R3" yourfile.CR3

Voila!

The camera profiles are probably not 100% accurate but to my eyes it looks just like the Canon colors.... so it should be fine for now."

Welcome to the bleeding edge of digital photography. See comments above about downloading all available Adobe subscription updates, where possibly the changes for the EOS R7 are available or may still need to way until a future update.

R7's RAW is "CR3". LrC with the latest updates and PS with the latest updates handle them just fine.
I have the CC subscription:
Camera Raw v 14.1.1
LrC v 11.4.1
PS v 23.4.2

Wish I had that problem. I'm still waiting for my R7. B&H won't even speculate when they are coming in

Adobe supported the R7 the day it was released in Lightroom, Photoshop and Camera Raw if you updated your product to the latest version.

Not an R7, but my R10 is on its way from B&H as I type this. It was shipped yesterday.

The R7 has been updated in ACR and LR and you can edit in PS. I thought the same as you and then updated the Adobe
suite and the update was there.

If shooting raw, this happens to most new cameras - it seems every camera wants to encode raw in it's own unique way so you have to get MORE special software - raw has NO standardization - unlike JPEG

Shooting raw, you are at the mercy of some things beyond your control .....this seems to be a new revelation for some raw users !

It's not seems ... Should sensors of different bit-depth and / or pixel resolution all need to be packed into a standard 'known' format by a third-party software? Should all manufacturers be reduced to the lowest common denominator?

Yes, and YES ....keep it SIMPLE .......I do realize that software developers want to protect their jobs !
