I use 3 D-500 for my remote shots set to capture events by a MIOPS, For my main bodies, I use 2 D-850s. I see no pint in going to mirrorless based on marketing hype....In addition, having to buy an adapter for my lenses to use with mirrorless. Interesting article that came out this past month "https://photographylife.com/should-you-switch-dslr-to-mirrorless"
In short...to each their own.....I'm not driven by the latest technology..... Mirrorless is in its infancy.

I agree. There is one glaring draw back of the Nikon Z9, and this is the reason I have, and will not purchase it. And I have used Nikon's since 1969.
The Z9 will loose track on a moving subject, your D500, using GROUP AUTO FOCUS, will not loose tracking on a flying, moving subject, especially if it gets lost in the background.
Why Nikon choose to drop GROUP AUTO FOCUS is beyond me, but they did.
So, if your thinking about a new Nikon purchase, and you like to shoot birds in flight like I do, I would strongly suggest going to Sony, like I did.
It was very hard saying good bye to my beloved Nikon line of camera's, I carried them into tough situations while shooting for UPI (united press international) and as a professional wedding photographer for over 35 years.
But Nikon just keeps messing up, I thought their Z9 would bring them back, but they have had issues with tracking since it came out.
I started using Sony with the a9 about two years ago. This year I am selling off the rest of my Nikon line. I will retain my Nikon D3s and the 60 and 105 micro lenses, my Nikon SB900 flash, and the Nikon 24-120 f4. All of the other equipment will be going and I will switch completely by this November with the purchase of the Sony a1.
It is a sad day indeed, but I have written Nikon, watched there blogs, and have not been impressed with their responses to me, and I have been a member of Nikon Professional Services since day one.
So, my advise is, if you looking to go mirrorless, is to do what I did, or go Canon, they seem to be doing a good job with mirrorless bodies also.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
I agree. There is one glaring draw back of the Nik... (show quote)

Obviously you have never shot a sporting event with a Z9. It has, IMHO, the best tracking of ANY Nikon body, and, by a long shot. You should not comment on stuff you haven't used. Use whatever you want for your own work, but please provide accurate advice. It does take a while to become familiar with and I've had one, now two, since Jan 3rd. I consider the Z9 to be a D6 and a D850 on steroids! Best of luck.

Others have other reasons, but for me the move from slr to evf brings these benefits (in *my* priority order):

1. Perfect wysiwyg
2. Silent mode
3. High burst speeds
4. Adaptable lens mount
5. Size

No reason to continue the list beyond "Size" cuz my using mostly adapted old slr lenses minimizes the size benefit.

As a happy D500 user, most likely your priorities (other than speed) will greatly differ from mine.

Size ? DX SLR lens on DX EVF camera.

Let's see, 21 lenses 21 adapters. That's lotta weight. Plus they extend the lens.

If you love it why change? An old truism: If there is no need to make a change, there is a need to not make a change.

I have a Nikon D-800 I'll sell you for 500.00 including S/H if you want it. It's been a good camera for me and I just stopped using it last month when I got the D-850.

Your D500 is the best of the best APS-c cameras ever made. I would keep that. Also it’s probably PAID for!!
