Been using Nikon D500 from day one. LOVE it but thinking of a new Nikon purchase. I do not think any current Nikons would give me any advances or satisfaction over the D500. Just your thoughts. Thanks

Just the Z9. As far as I understand.

I have a D500 and it is a great crop-sensor (DX) camera.
A quick search on the web shows the D500 and the newer Z50 to be pretty evenly matched in terms of specs. The Z50 has better high ISO performance if you're interested in low-light shooting.
To get a significant increase in camera performance, you'll have to investigate a Nikon Full-Frame (FX) DSLR or a Nikon Mirrorless FX camera. In either case, your existing DX lenses will be unsuitable for use with FX cameras.
I'm certain others will weigh in since this is a hot-button topic on UHH.

The big question is what is the D500 not doing for you that GAS is going to fix?

Be patient.... I am sure Nikon is working on a mirrorless version of the D500 for their Z-series. It was such a big success as a DSLR, no doubt they'd like to repeat that with their mirrorless. It's just a matter of time... and until that happens, you are probably best advised to keep enjoying your D500. It's still an excellent camera!

So far Nikon has only intro'd three mirrorless DX... The Z50 (nice little all-arounder), Zfc (retro styled all-arounder) and just recently the Z30 (a "vlogger" camera without a viewfinder). As best I can tell, all three use essentially the same 21MP sensor and AF system. The Z50 comes the closest to being a mirrorless D500... but it doesn't add much new and actually falls quite a bit short in some ways. The D500 is essentially a pro-shooter/advanced amateur camera... while the Z50 is targeted more broadly toward a more amateur user. Yes, the Z50 has an electronic viewfinder and is able to do some things such as eye and face detection, but it doesn't increase frame rate or resolution compared to the D500, and in some other ways is more like a D5600 (1/4000 top shutter speed, single card slot, less robust build quality).

Canon introducing their first two APS-C R-series camera... the R7 (32.5MP) and R10 (24MP)... might light a fire under Nikon to step up the development of a Z-series version of the D500. Canon put a lot of tech for the money into the R7 (IBIS, advanced AF, ultra fast frame rates, dual memory cards). But in spite of what they named it, the R7 is more a mirrorless 90D than a mirrorless 7D Mark II. This gives Nikon an opportunity to leapfrog Canon with a mirrorless D500 that's sort of an "entry level Z9". A pro/advanced amateur model, DX format and more affordable.

So I would council patience, grass hopper. It's just a matter of time until Nikon launches a camera worth replacing your D500.

We I assumed lol that he used it for wildlife. Lol. Therefore there is nothing as good as the d500 from Nikon except the Z9.

I agree. There is one glaring draw back of the Nikon Z9, and this is the reason I have, and will not purchase it. And I have used Nikon's since 1969.
The Z9 will loose track on a moving subject, your D500, using GROUP AUTO FOCUS, will not loose tracking on a flying, moving subject, especially if it gets lost in the background.
Why Nikon choose to drop GROUP AUTO FOCUS is beyond me, but they did.
So, if your thinking about a new Nikon purchase, and you like to shoot birds in flight like I do, I would strongly suggest going to Sony, like I did.
It was very hard saying good bye to my beloved Nikon line of camera's, I carried them into tough situations while shooting for UPI (united press international) and as a professional wedding photographer for over 35 years.
But Nikon just keeps messing up, I thought their Z9 would bring them back, but they have had issues with tracking since it came out.
I started using Sony with the a9 about two years ago. This year I am selling off the rest of my Nikon line. I will retain my Nikon D3s and the 60 and 105 micro lenses, my Nikon SB900 flash, and the Nikon 24-120 f4. All of the other equipment will be going and I will switch completely by this November with the purchase of the Sony a1.
It is a sad day indeed, but I have written Nikon, watched there blogs, and have not been impressed with their responses to me, and I have been a member of Nikon Professional Services since day one.
So, my advise is, if you looking to go mirrorless, is to do what I did, or go Canon, they seem to be doing a good job with mirrorless bodies also.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Bob, you took words from my mouth. The OP seems to be happy with his D500 and although he did not mention what type of photography he prefers and unless he needs features not present in the D500 I believe he will be wasting money buying a new camera unless he has plenty of money to burn.
There is no new camera that will make him better than what he is now.

Obvious - the D500 is not a new camera. Getting something new is nice!
