Susan, I am not sure were in Maryland you live. There is a excellent local photography store in Hamden, Maryland (in Baltimore). The store is Service Photo. They have a Used Cannon 70-300 listed. If you are close to Baltimore, you can check it out firsthand. The staff is well qualified, professional, and service oriented. It is my go to photo store for many years. Photo Service is also very competitive with the bigger online & NY stores.

Does anyone have any experience purchasing pre-owned lenses from B&H or Adorama? I have been eyeing a Canon 70-300mm L-series, but now production is discontinued and I can’t locate it new anywhere.

You can not go wrong with either.

I've owned this lens. It's well-built and a great performer. But, have you considered the equally excellent and newer EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM? This non L lens isn't white painted, is missing the red ring, is smaller, a lot lighter, and best of all: delivers excellent images with Canon's newest IS assistance.

B&H, Adorama, KEH, Roberts and MPB are great places to seek used equipment. You'll pay more for that red-ring and near additional 1 pound of weight for the L lens than than you'll see in the images from the lower cost model.

Have used both B&H & Adorama several times both ship products that are in better condition then sated, ship fast and excellent return policy.

I agree with Paul the above mentioned lens (which I purchased from Adorama) is great and aside from build has the same optics, needed more reach so moved to the 100-400 ll but still have the 70-300 as my back up,

Hi - I'm in Rockville, but spend time in Baltimore (my daughter lives there). I will definitely check out Service Photo. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you all for the fantastic advice on both pre-owned sources and the lens I'm considering! My first query on UHH, and I'm truly overwhelmed!

They both are reputable sellers of good quality used gear.

Also check out great used gear at Allen's Camera, my fav and also Jared Polin's (Fro-Knows) fav. I have even witnessed in person Adorama folks coming to Allen's and buying up quality used gear to sell at Adorama. https://allenscamera.com/

Have you considered eBay? I bought several Minolta lenses without a problem. They have the best return policy which includes prepaid Free shipping.

One thing I can say about B&H is they have a 30 try it guarantee that if you do not like it just send it back withiin 30 days and you will get a refund on your purchase. Hope this helps you decide on used equipment.

I have an almost brand new Tamron Lens for sale (150-600)for Canon. It can be used hand-held but tripod would be better. I only used it once or twice and it is in perfect condition. I'm including a carrying case and a 95 mm UV filter lens.
Asking $800.00. Email me at normpel@comcast.net if interested.

I've bought used lenses from both B&H and KEH. Both provided excellent service and the descriptions were excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

I give high marks to B&H, Adorama and KEH for used gear. I've never been disappointed.
