Yeah, BUT, these are “customs”, and portholes can be added just like the split window and the fuel filler door. I have no idea what it started out as, so your observations are just as valid as mine ( or anyone else's for that matter). Nice thread with some great discussions and viewpoints. Thanks to the original poster and all that responded!

Thanks everyone for your interest and comments, glad you enjoyed these truly creative Kustoms. The 2nd car, yellow convertible, sure had me stumped figuring out what it started out as. Luckily, the owner/builder stopped by while I was looking over the car and he told me it started life as a '54 Plymouth. I never would have guessed! If you look closely along the side of the bright orange custom, I think you'll see that the rear is clearly a 1961 Chevy.
Now that it seems that there is interest in this category of cars, I'll go back through my archives and cull some of the better "Low Riders" I have photographed for a future post.

True, but if you look at the body style and lines along with the portholes I don't think there's any question.

No "Cookie Cutter" designs here! Photos from my Daytona Turkey Run archives. Can you recognize their starting points?
Great set! Beautiful colors and designs. Thanx for sharing.
according to the license plate on the first one, I think it might be a 1950 Chevy.
Those were the days, my friend .... great shots of great cars!
