I am baffled how a new technology can evoke such emotion and passion.
Why do you have to defend your choice of equipment?
The forgotten goal here is photographs. Use whatever equipment suits you and stop criticizing your fellow enthusiast for his/her choice.

But you probably can't afford one.

My Nikon D3s will take on and win anyone willing to put up their mirrorless against me in a battle of landscape photography.

My philosophy is to purchase or upgrade only when my current gear will not allow me to do what I want. It’s worked for years for cameras, computers, phones, etc. I’ve upgraded many times, but only when it felt necessary. Full disclosure: I’m “thinking” about whether mirrorless is “necessary” for me…. No answers yet!

For me, as a wildlife photographer, I need higher frames per second, it can make the difference between a bla bla bla image and an award winning image.
I need 30 fps minimum for what I do.
I agree with you 100%, I only upgrade when my current gear will not allow me to do what I want.
And so, mirrorless here I come.

Is not so much about new technology but rather why don't you like the same things I do kind of emotion.

The mirrorless lenses are hands-down better in every single model.
The mirrorless cameras have the newer / newest processors that will never be updated into the DSLRinosaurs.
DSLRinosaurs will never have IBIS.
DSLRinosaurs will never have silent shutters (electronic shutters with no mechanical parts).
Top MILC bodies, now even Canon's mid range mirrorless, have frames per second that run multiple laps around DSLRinosaurs stuck the tarpits.
Mirrorless have all the AF innovations never to be updated into DSLRinosaurs.
Mirrorless bodies can adapt any brand's SLR-mount lenses, enabling all sorts of lenses with IBIS and focus peaking technology for better results than ever on their legacy bodies.

It's not even a competition. If someone tells you they can't see the difference in an image from a mirrorless camera, they're lying.

The viewer cannot tell if a quality image was made with a DSLR or a mirrorless camera.

I agree with Quixdraw, ken_stern and Bigmike1. Who cares. I just got my D850 last Sept. and could not be happier and besides I have too much invested in DSLR glass to even think about changing again. The first time was Aps-c to full frame. I know I can use a "adapter" but why should I have to adapt. Maybe if I had unlimited finances and a different attitude maybe I'd change or if I had any money left after the divorce.

I'm with you, Quixdraw. The majority of the folks that seem to be focused on this are equipment-centric photographers. Though I do have to admit to using a couple of mirrorless cameras, https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-735152-1.html. I also tried another mirrorless and put the sensor back on a mirrored body. It's the photograph that counts, not the equipment with which it is taken.

What I'd really like to see is someone post a thread enumerating the benefits of mirrorless over DSLR. Just the facts, not the emotional ties.

Well, the differences WILL be emotional, depending on how one feels about the differences.
Whether they are important to them or not.

Yup, to me the photo (end result) is what counts. I don't care with what it was taken, or which editor was used to adjust it.
