The last time I was at Yosemite was for a week long backpack trip. That was the summer after I graduated high school. I'm way overdue for another trip. Excellent photo series Mooseeyes.

Tuesday morning I was out in my garage early feeding my dog, having my coffee and listening to the radio when the local news announced that as a result of the last couple of storms the water was back in the big waterfalls. Tuesday was to be the one day break between storms, so I loaded up my gear and headed for Yosemite. It is almost in my back yard, with the entire trip being 170 miles round trip.

There were still a fair amount of fall colors to shoot, the big water falls were great, and half dome had snow on its top. What really surprised me were all the people that were there, even with the icy roads, on a Tuesday in November.

Here are a few of the many images that I took. As always, your comments and/or questions more than welcome.

And Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. . .

And to you! great job!

Great photos mooseeyes - someplace I have always wanted to visit. I'm on the opposite side of the counrty - not sure when I'll get there. Sometimes when we are so near to something we think we will have all the time in the world to get there. Then we move and realize we never made the time.

Thanks for the comment. We seem to always want that which is beyond our reach. I have always wanted to spend time photographing the Hudson River Valley; but, alas I have yet to make it there. . .an area in your backyard. 8-)

You are not all that far away. Just avoid summer time, as there are so many people in Yosemite during the summer even the bears go elsewhere.

Back in the late 50's I did 10 days backpacking part of the John Muir trail in this area. That's the trip where I learned that people really do turn blue in really cold water. I will never forget how cold these snow run off pools of water where we washed up and attempted to wash away the dirt every couple of days. Shaving was completely out of the question!

Distance and opportunity often get us confused. I know too many people who live within a couple of hours of Yosemite, yet have never been; however, many of them have been to the Great Wall of China, etc.

Well I hope you will make it over the "Pond" for a visit someday. We get folks from all over the world. On Tuesday, I think most of the people that I saw and spoke with were visiting from other countries. I nice young couple from Germany asked me to take their photo for them with their camera, plus I spoke with folks from Japan, Australia, France and Ireland on Tuesday.

With all of my gear, it seems that where ever I go people seek me out to either take their photo. . .or help them with their cameras. Tuesday I had a fella ask me for help with his Nikon (never have owned a Nikon, I shoot Canon), he didn't have his manual with him, but I was able to figure out and fix his problem, sending him off to shoot some wonderful pictures. Must be my friendly nature. . .yeah, right!

Great series Mooseeyes. Thanks for the memories. I lived in Fresno about 18 yrs. ago and loved going to Yosemite when I got the chance. Now live in Ohio and praying I can move back out soon. Last time I was at Yosemite was end of summer (Sept. '07) and there was no water in Yosemite Falls at all. It was really strange walking on and around the rocks and huge boulders in the riverbed usually covered with ice-cold rushing water. That's what I love so much about photography...you can photograph the same scene over and over and it'll never be the same twice. Thanks again.
