That's amazing! I wonder if I'll be able to hold a camera if/when I'm 95.

It's Doc's birthday!! He was 87 when he performed this classic jazz composition (written by Dizzy Gillespie) in 2015. God bless him, he's now 95!! Here he is performing with the North Texas State Jazz Band.

note: North Texas State was and still is a mecca for jazz.
Enjoy,
Mark

"Yes Johnny...you are correct sir!" He was great then and he's looking and sounding great in this '15 clip. I keep a CD of Chris Botti in the car at all times. I should grab one by Doc. I love trumpet...don't know why I wasted time on the sax in grammar school. Oh well. Thanks Mark.

I have a small container of Doc Severinson's Lip Balm that I bought when he was still on TV. It's about the size of a half dollar. Still works for chapped lips. Only one application needed and the problem is solved.

What a great trip down memory lane, Mark!! Thanks!! Doc's great and so is the North Texas State band. I remember back in the 60s when Stan Kenton wrote the cover notes for what I believe was the first album the NTS Jazz lab band produced. And who could forget Doc and group playing for Carson!!! Great years, great music...

Wow! He looks and plays great for 87 (although he does appear to get out of breath...)! I went to high school for a few years in Texas, and our band teacher was friends with Doc Severinson, and he came and did a show at our high school. He was awesome 50+ years ago, and is still awesome!

He was always the band leader and occasionally played ...

If you're referring to the Tonight Show Band, he replaced Skitch Henderson as Johnny's band leader in the mid-60s. Other hosts on the Tonight Show (Paar, Leno, etc.) had different band leaders, but Doc was always the best. His playing was/is spectacular; he hit the highest notes possible with ease.
