Your new phone doesn't run them?
My "new" phone dates from 2018. It will not run the remote control app for the GoPro - "GoPro Quik." That's the only denial I've gotten. The Moto e6 (March 2022) will runs that app.

My last cell phone an LG V20 I use to play solitaire. That game had lots of ads and wore down the battery fast. Now, I put it in Airplane mode so none of the ads display, and the battery lasts a long time. AT&T made me replace that phone because it wasn't 5G. The gave me a cheap $40 cell phone that I hate. Since my old phone does everything it always did except make phone calls, I keep it around for the 99.9999% of things I always used it for. I rarely get or use the phone part of the phone for an actual phone. BTW, that "old" LG takes great pictures and movies.

I must be odd, I don't play games on my phone.
I only have a couple of apps that get ads, but they are not used a lot.
I only use the internet on my phone rarely.
I can't see having (carrying) two devices that do almost the same thing.
As for the photos, I'm going to guess that my new phone (more Mp) does better than my old phone. But I've not done a pixel comparison, and won't.
But I'll agree that it's hard to throw a device that still runs into the recycle box. It seems wasteful. Something easily done when one gets a new car though.
I still have to figure if the new phone has the "up/down" indicators when making a pano sweep. I will miss that if it doesn't.
Still using a Samsung gusto [ $ 12.00 ].

Yeah, aside from "Pong" when it first came out, I've never played electronic games. I don't have any philosophical reasons for this, but I keep myself entertained without computer games. I am surprised at how phenomenally popular computer games are and how good the quality is. The top players make a fortune playing in front of audiences.

Is it 3 or 4G non-VoLTE?
Those will no longer work on Verizon after 12/31/22.
That's the
only reason I got a new phone. My S-III was 4G non-VoLTE.

Thanks for reminding me of that use! I need to have a second recorder this weekend, and now I don't have to buy one.

Probably 4G. I buy phones from TracFone, so they're well under $1,000. : )

If it's 4G VoLTE you should be okay.

"VoLTE" is foreign to me. I'll try Google. : )
EDIT: Ah, "Voice over."

Yea, how it plays into the scenario I have no idea, Just that non-VoLTE will no longer work.

Voice over "long term evolution..."
When the standards were being developed, LTE was the design goal after 4G. 4G by itself was an inferior state of development, if I recall correctly. Hence, the engineers spoke of the "long term evolution" of the technology. LTE built upon the 4G foundation.
It has been a very messy evolution. Ultimately, it seems the telephone companies will eat all of the TV bands in the radio spectrum.
We live in a sea of electromagnetic radiation now.

Isn't that more or less a law of nature? There's no such thing as speedy evolution.
I'd still be using my Motorola Razr... if it'd work on the current network. /-;

My old S-3 hasn't update the OS and half of my apps in years. Yea the phone is outdated.
So outdated that after 12/31/22 it won't even make a phone call. (4G goes away.)....
I think you must be mistaken about 4G going away. I would think it would be with us for another decade. However, 3G is going away (date depends on the carrier) this year.
