This was my first day in Yellowstone. I had my new 600mm lens all ready, on the gimbal head. My first bear, I'm ready. Dang he was fast moving. Had to run down the road with the big lens and tripod to try and stay ahead of him, or her. Trying to get the settings right. Eye track does not work on bears.
I think I will keep the lens even though at one point it was more than I needed. No, I was not out there by myself and when it did come my way there was a vehicle that I was able to get behind, no danger. One downside to the big lens it is heavy and bulky and hard to move in a hurry when necessary.... but yes, I'm keeping it. I just love the up close shots.

Great shots, excellent series! I'm thinking if I saw a bear coming towards me I might get in the car.

Great set of this beautiful creature. I was in a workshop on "Bear-human encounters in the National Parks" years ago. The NP biologist giving the talk said that typically when they were called to investigate human remains that appeared to be the result of a grizzly encounter, they retrieved a camera. They had the film developed (this was two decades ago) and would almost always see a series of photographs of the grizzly, getting closer and closer, and the last one would sometimes be a beautiful photo of the grizzly taking notice of the photographer, sometimes standing up on it's hind legs and staring down at the camera...... Just sayin'...... You might want an extender on that telephoto!
What a rush! Great pictures

The 600 is not really a portable lens, it is a lugable, but you got some wonderful shots.
Photolady2014, Thanks for your post and your diligence in using a long lens. You have some nice photos. Wish all people taking photos of wildlife in our National Parks would use long lenses The lens should be at least a 300mm. A 600mm is not for the weak of back and heart. The last shot is my favorite.
Wow, you were in the thick of it all capturing your images!! Nice work. You are braver than I.
great ad for the 600mm lens. beautiful shots. i would love to have the rf 100-500 canon.
