We had both HoJo's and A&P near us - years ago. If I recall, A&P stood for Atlantic & Pacific but I could be wrong.
Yes it did. The whole name originally was the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company.

I think Rachel Ray - the TV cook - used to work there.
That's sad - loved their mint ice cream with real hard mint chips - probably 50 years ago.

Right. Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company.
Thanks, I did not know that Tea Company was also part of the name. Learn something every day.

Howard Johnson's was always the best part of a road trip.
Who can forget all you can eat clam strips at HoJo's?
I think it was on Tuesday's.

Ah, yes! We had one near us (I think everyone did.), and it had a cupola on top with a blinking light.
When we were traveling with our parents my sister and I used to beg my dad to pull over into a Howard Johnson's because we were so enthralled with the electric hand dryers and the restrooms! I think the first one we ever went to was on the New Jersey Turnpike.

This could be a second career opportunity for you Jerry
The last Howard Johnson restaurant in the country, affectionately known as HoJo, has closed its doors.
HoJo's final restaurant was along Route 9 in Lake George, New York, for nearly 70 years. It has since been listed for $10 as a "rare business opportunity to lease." The 7,500-square-foot building has a single floor.
"Open to various lease options with flexibility, this one acre lot sits high above the main gateway of Lake George Village which can’t be missed," the listing reads. "With 400 [linear feet] of road front, this opportunity offers high visibility with plenty of space to efficiently run your operation."

EVERYBODY stopped at the Red Apple Rest.
The parking lot was jammed with cars and busses...
There’s a band based in northern NJ not far from there that calls themselves “Red Apple Rest”
Howard Johnson’s, where the ice cream comes in 30 flavors and the food comes in 1😳

At age 13, when I was confirmed, my uncle took all of us in our Sunday best to Howard Johnson’s on Queens Blvd. in Queens, NY.
My first time eating in a restaurant (as opposed to a diner).

Speaking of old upstate NY restaurants, remember the Re Apple Rest?
We used to stop there every time we went to the “mountains.”
Me too! I had a burger and (greasy) fries!! Actually stopped there a several years ago and saw the shuttered building! There are some images on Google.
Across Route 17, competition came up from the Orseck Brothers (or Boys) so Southbound traffic could stop there more conveniently. They did not last very long!!!
I also ate a few times at that Lake George restaurant....did not realize it was the last one! I guess I am older than I thought!
Yes, remember the signs. 4 Miles to Red Apple Rest
