While looking at one of the water falls in Yellowstone I spotted a chipmunk, one of the biggest I have ever seen and more brightly colored than any other chipmunk I have seen. While taking its portrait another chipmunk appeared and they started sparring and literally going over other several times while making barking sounds. This was too fast and too close for me to capture. Then they separated a few inches apart to look at each other and then all was quiet in chipmunk land. Cute little peanuts though.

Please feel free to make any comments.

Zooman beat me to it! It's easy to mistake them. And, yeah, they are pugnacious little devils! Nice photos!

Nice shots. I knew they weren't chipmunks but didn't know what they were.

They are cute. I wondered why they were called ground squirrels when they look so much like the chipmunks we have here. I did not know about the plague. That's kind of scary. I recall being at Bear Lake once years ago in Rocky Mountain NP. They were obviously accustomed to being fed by tourists and they had gotten very tame. I saw a little girl sitting on a bench while a few of these guys climbed all over her, sat on her shoulders, etc. And we stopped at a rest stop once in Idaho where they were so tame they allowed us to hand-feed them. Won't do that again.
