Always sad to know predators got to a nest! Just this morning, I've been videoing a nest on our bedroom windowsill. The baby robins are stretching and flapping their wings, ready to fledge. When they heard a blue jay nearby, they all hunkered down and sat still. I pondered what to do if the blue jay found the nest; video nature taking its course? or (most probably!) open the window and scare that blue jay away!
Years ago when I lived in a Chicago suburb a rabbit built a nest in my yard and had babies and one day a crow pulled the little ones out and killed them except for one. I wasn't happy about that. In your case I would deter the blue jay if possible.
